Customer Reviews:
A must read! Changed my career!.......2007-06-27
After the first 6 months in business (I've just finished my 3rd year), I decided to buy a number of Real Estate instructional books on how to sell Real Estate. I had a feeling this would be the best. I saved it for last. I read 4 other books over the holidays (about a 4 week period). The other books were good, but redundant and nothing that changed me. I started to read this book and immedietely knew that this book was different. It gave specific direction on what has worked for successful people. Not just successful people here and there, but the book took a scientific approach to identify common practices among groups of successful Realtors.
The result? I can't say that I do everything that the book says to do. I should! But, I have taken parts of the books and implemented those practices. The year after reading this book I made the top 20% in the market. The following year I made the top 15%. And this year is off the charts. I'm not sure where I will end up, but top 10 or better.
There is no substitute for hard work, but I would rather work hard the right way. Best of luck!
You've Got To Be Open To A Unique Perspective.......2007-06-23
This book is about how to organize and run a business, and while it focuses on real estate agent businesses, its principles are applicable to running any type of business. If you are looking for a book to explain listings per se, or working with buyers per se, then this might not be the right book for you. However, if you are smart (if you "get it") then you will realize that the things taught in this book are far more important to your ultimate success than any book you might read on how to take a listing. Buy this book, read it ten times, and when you think you understand it read it ten more times! Its message is that important! Few understand this.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I should say that I am an attorney, real estate broker, investor, trainer, and am affiliated with a Keller Williams office in Chicago. That said, rest assured that if I thought Gary Keller's book was garbage I would say so -- however, it is a good book that you should read. For what it's worth, I am the author of another real estate related book that can also be found here on Amazon -- The WealthLoop Series Beginner's Guide to Building Wealth Buying Houses: The Foolproof Roadmap to Real Estate Riches Without the Risks and Hassles of Landlording. It's part of the "WealthLoop Series" and can be found by searching for "WealthLoop" under books. It is an actual "how to" book as opposed to a "rah-rah" book and comes complete with forms, checklists, leases -- everything the beginning investor needs to get started. Agents from across the country have been telling me that my book finally taught them the right way to work with residential investors. I would suggest that you buy both mine and Gary Keller's books to get the complete picture.
Useless.......2007-06-19
I am a rookie agent and found the material worthless, a complete waste of money and time. There is no real technique here. The book so repetitive its agonizing. The worst part is it really has nothing to do with real estate, I learned NOTHING about the real estate business reading this book. You could re title the book an infinite number of times and have the same content "The Millionaire Day Care Worker" for example. There is as much information about running a day care as there is real estate. Steer clear.
Millionaire Real Estate Agent.......2007-06-18
Every real estate agent needs to read this book or forget about selling real estate and get a job working for someone else. Gary Keller the founder of Keller Williams has gone to the trouble and expense to really find out what has to be done consistently to become very successful selling real estate in the Unites States full time. It all begins with lead generation. I can't tell you how many agents I personally know that don't understand the concept. The model is leads, listings and leverage; its that simple; the basics are very important. I worked at Keller Williams and really beleive in the company because it is the future of the business. If you are not going to be super successful lead generating then you should not even bother earning your real estate license.I could teach anyone even a nonsales person with no personality how to be successful in real estate; its more then attitude; its a hell of allot of work. I would only hire someone in my office that has read, understands and is able to apply these concepts.
Big Ideas, No System.......2007-05-17
Skip it; you can get these platitudes from any R/E seminar.
-get listings
-get a database
-focus on numbers
-think without fear
-"Think a Million"
-"Earn a Million"
-"Net a Million"
-by the way, "IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY . . . "
-"It's about being the best you can be!"
In other words: drink the Koolaid; buy the book. If you still think you need to buy into this odious demagogy, I have a second-hand manifesto to sell. I'm thinking a million.
In contrast, Real Estate Success for Dummies (Dirk Zeller) has a wealth of applicable information.

Personal-finance author and lecturer Robert Kiyosaki developed his unique economic perspective through exposure to a pair of disparate influences: his own highly educated but fiscally unstable father, and the multimillionaire eighth-grade dropout father of his closest friend. The lifelong monetary problems experienced by his "poor dad" (whose weekly paychecks, while respectable, were never quite sufficient to meet family needs) pounded home the counterpoint communicated by his "rich dad" (that "the poor and the middle class work for money," but "the rich have money work for them"). Taking that message to heart, Kiyosaki was able to retire at 47. Rich Dad, Poor Dad, written with consultant and CPA Sharon L. Lechter, lays out his the philosophy behind his relationship with money. Although Kiyosaki can take a frustratingly long time to make his points, his book nonetheless compellingly advocates for the type of "financial literacy" that's never taught in schools. Based on the principle that income-generating assets always provide healthier bottom-line results than even the best of traditional jobs, it explains how those assets might be acquired so that the jobs can eventually be shed. --Howard Rothman
Book Description
Rich Dad, Poor Dad chronicles the story of the authors two dads, his own father, who wa the superintendent of education in Hawaii and who ended up dying penniless and his best friends father who dropped out of school at age 13 and went on to become one of the wealthiest men in Hawaii. Kiyosaki uses the story of these two men and their varying financial strategies to illustrate the need for a new financial paradigm in order to achieve financial success in the new millennium.
Download Description
A #1 New York Times bestseller, 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' is a true story on the lessons about money that Robert Kiyosaki learned from his two "dads." One dad, a Ph.D. and superintendent of education, never had enough money at the end of the month and died broke. His other dad dropped out of school at age 13 and went on to become one of the wealthiest men in Hawaii. 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' will . . .· Explode the myth that you need to earn a high income to become rich · Challenge the belief that your house is an asset · Show parents why they can't rely on the school system to teach their kids about money
· Define once and for all an asset and a liability · Teach you what to teach your kids about money for their future financial success. In 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad', Robert Kiyosaki explains how to make your money work hard for you instead of you working hard for money.
Customer Reviews:
Great But Somewhat Limited.......2007-06-29
This book is worth all the hype...with limitations.
Kiyosaki shares valuable insights into money management in a friendly tone with limited use of jargon and one can see success within reach.
BUT, one can interpret his 'this is so easy anyone can do it' tone as somewhat head-in-the-clouds. He's rich now - he can say anything. There are times he is sharing about a successful deal where he 'just' spent $50,000 - that alienates the folks who don't even have that to spend. He writes assuming that there is some basis upon which you can build - that you have a couple hundred thousand dollars lying around to throw at some investments. It leaves one feeling 'easy-for-you-to-sayish'.
He seems to specialize in real estate and that limits whom he can help, especially if the real estate market in your country is nothing like that of the US. Certainly the ideas and methods he taught do not apply in the least in my country.
He does teach general ideas that are very helpful and make perfect sense. He emphasizes the attendant character and attitude that good money management takes and demonstrates said attitudes through his writing.
I put the book down feeling like it was written for a certain type - he lost points for that - persons who have a decent amount of money already. I don't recommend it if your are working your way up from nothing like me.
Nevertheless its worth the time and the best lesson was to get educated about money - but I don't consider him the best teacher.
I wish my Dad had been rich.......2007-06-25
This book confirms what many of us who grew up in a blue collar family have learned over a long period of years. This book gives young people a definite advantage of hearing the "other side" early in life, before college and while they are still optimistic. It also reinforces the American dream of becoming wealthy in just one generatiion.
This book contains the type of information and attitude that I hope to instill in my grandchildren. It is packed with insight and presents it in an entertaining, easy to read format.
Great book - There are other great books too..........2007-06-21
Great book! Another good book that helped me tremendously was the one at www.financial-planning-book.com. I wish amazon sold the book from there. It was called Best Financial Planning Book and was the absolute best book on financial planning that I've ever read. Hope that helps someone.
A must read book for everyone........2007-06-15
Everyone should read this book and the earlier in life the better.
Great for a change in your mindset.......2007-06-11
I first read this book about two years ago and instantly loved it. I recently read it again hoping to reignite that same enthusiasm I initially experienced. I'll agree with other posters that a great literary work it is not, however, I have to say that I believe it achieves its intended goal. This book will prompt one to "think outside of the box" and for me that was catalyst enough to change how I viewed and ultimately chose to pursue what I wanted to do to earn a living. Do not buy this book if you are looking for a step by step guide to get rich quick or find investment advice. It definitely will not provide that. If you're looking for a book to help facilitate a mindset reset, then you can't go wrong with this one. I know many successful investors that swear by its contribution to doing just that for them.

Customer Reviews:
Childish.......2006-01-10
I was expecting to learn stuff like the most effective way to train people, how to structure training programs, how people learn etc. Instead, this book covers stuff that's very elementary and anyone who's a manager and got a grain of sense should know. It has a condecending tone towards managers--as in, your people need training because you're a moron. For example, "there probably isn't one worker in a thousand who can clearly describe the results (or accomplishments) they are expected to achieve." or "It's not uncommon for people to be expected to do things that they haven't been given permission to do." I only got to about page 50 and the tone and quality were consistant with these quotes.
Look elsewhere if you have a brain.
Good book. Typical Mager - easy to read, lots of good stuff.......1999-07-29
Valuable book, well worth the reading time. Good for Managers, Training Managers and developers.
Get results, save money: apply this book........1999-06-15
In his typical clear, jargon-free style, Bob Mager explains what training is, and what it's not. "Training" won't fix a problem unless the problem stems from a lack of skill or knowledge.
Mager explains why you can't train your way out of badly designed jobs, or idiotic incentive systems, or a lack of resources. He also shows ways to deal with those barriers to accomplishment.
And that's the heart of the matter. In the world of training and development, we talk about performance improvement -- focusing first on the results you want to get, and then examining possible reasons why you're not getting those results. Mager's book demystifies that focus and that examination.
Skeptical? I've been in the training business for over 20 years. For people who want a quick, cogent, useful understanding of both training and performance improvement, there's no better place to start than with "What Every Manager Should Know."

Download Description
As Robert Kiyosaki writes in Rich Dad, Poor Dad, the poor and the middle class work for their money, but the rich make money work for them. Now this phenomenally popular financial philosophy is explained in a style that's perfect for teenagers. Rich Dad, Poor Dad for Teens distills the principles of cash flow, assets and liabilities, saving and investing money, and how to find opportunities to "create money" by presenting these points in a voice and format geared toward younger readers. Best of all, Rich Dad's advice is accessible to all teens, no matter how "smart" or confident they feel about money. Parents and teachers seeking creative, accessible ways to teach "financial intelligence" to teens will also find this book a useful tool. More than ever, teens and parents are realizing that it's never too early to become financially literate, and this book gives them a means to get started.
Customer Reviews:
Could Be Better.......2007-05-01
I am a teenager who had previously heard of his book for adults under the same name. I bought the teen one because it looked like it would be simpler and I felt I would learn better with the exercises. But I feel it was too simplistic and I wonder if I would have been better off getting the book for adults.
It is still useful but maybe what I was looking for was more information. This stuff felt too general talking about assets versus liabilities or good debt versus bad debt. Since I am still interested in the subject matter I will not give up.
I might try one of his adult books before I give up completely.
NO SECRETS.......2007-04-07
I READ THIS BOOK TO SEE IF IT WAS AS THE TITLE SUGGEST IT IS.THERE ARE NO SECRETS. IT IS JUST A CASUAL CONVERSATION IN THE DIRECTION OF TEACHING YOUR TEEN ABOUT MONEY.
Good beginners book.......2007-04-02
THis book is good for people that don't know much about money or aren't very creative. But nonetheless it's a good "bebinners" book.
More emphasis need on education, being formal or financial.......2006-06-17
The author, while he does suggest education is important, does not stress it - he suggests advanced education is important only if you are entering into a professional career. (Read the introduction to see what I mean) - You may want to speak to the your children on that, I felt a bit uncomfortable knowing that's what my chilren would be reading.
It was just 2 paragraphs. Maybe I am sensitive to education and what it means, but I certainly don't want to give anyone `permission' to not study. Formal education or financial education both take time and effort, nothing comes easy.
All else was golden, especially hearing it as young people. As in all things, we take what is good, and leave the rest.
Still worth reading...offers good teen-friendly advice on achieving a financial headstart & freedom!.......2006-06-01
Despite the controversy surrounding the author, Robert Kiyosaki, I strongly feel that this particular book is still worth reading by teens, as it offers good teen-friendly advice on achieving financial headstart & freedom.
Overall, his advice is also given in a straight-talk, easy-to-understand manner.
In a nut shell, this particular book covers basic principles of cash flow, assets & liabilities, savings & investments, as well as spotting money-making opportunities. There is even useful information about personal learning style while developing financial intelligence.
Yes, the author's published stuff to some extent may seem hyberbolic on the surface, but deep down, you can always discern some useful learning from some of his teachings. [Personally, I have encountered the author in Hawaii. Frankly, I don't like his arrogant attitude & his seemingly characteristic propensity for running circles around people who ask pertinent questions, but I do respect some of his thoughtware.]
His core financial advice to teens is certainly realistic:
- work to learn, not to earn;
- don't work for money, make money work for you!;
- play games to learn!
Allow me to share this simple reading philosophy of mine: Absorb what is useful; reject what is useless; research your own experience & add what is specifically your own!

Look up Adsense Online and save your money........2007-06-21
You will get better information by just doing a little research yourself. I found this to be a "fluff" book so to speak. Large print, many blank pages between chapters, and the same points scattered throughout the text to fill it out. You will learn something perhaps, but save money and put an Ad sense search in Google and you will get better and more timely information. Believe me, they are not hiding information from you as the title implies.
Joel Comm's book is the bible of Adsense........2007-06-08
There are certain people that become synonymous with a topic
and for Google Adsense, that is Joel Comm.
I had attempted Adsense before reading Joel's book hoping that
the help section and internet searches would provide the answers, but
when I look back at the early stages of my internet development,
I realized what a time waster that is, and decided at that point on
that I would no longer engage in activities like that, and I would
go right to the source.
If you want to do Google Adsense, you buy this book - period.
It is the industry standard on this topic, what he outlines in extreme
details works, and he has programs and products that support
and expand on everything for when you get even more advanced, which
I also have and use.
As the bestselling author of "31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles"
I had researched extensively on this topic, and apply what I have learned,
and this is a fantastic blueprint directly on one of the topics I mention
from my book.
Once you have completed your path and are ready for the
specifics of implementing Adsense on your sites, and your blog, do it right and get Joel's book.

I've known Joel for a while now. He's really
on the cutting edge of the adsense wave. I'd grab

I have alot of friends that make good money using

Customer Reviews:
God book but too general.......2007-01-04
I ordered this book for my business library. I enjoyed the book, but if you want more specifics on the methods of detailed bond calculations, I would recommend a good financial investments text book.
Primer on Fixed Income Products.......2005-09-09
Am nearly finished reading the 2nd printing of this excellent tutorial. Although I have been an avid buyer & seller of fixed income products for many years, the author did a superb job of furthering my mid-level expertise especially in the area of municipal bonds. Her plain language explanations were most welcome as opposed to the plethora of financial techno-babble tomes that share the bookshelf. 5 Stars without reservation.
Too Complicated.......2005-04-19
Thau over complicates her points. The book is too difficult to understand. I am an attorney who has been investing in stocks and bonds for over 10 years. This book is not appropriate for any level investor.
Highly Recommended!.......2004-12-22
This is an accessible introduction to bonds by a financial professional whose first book - as unlikely as it may seem - was a study of Max Jacob, the French poet. The literary background of the author, Annette Thau, may account for her book's clear, easy-to-read style. Most authors who write about bonds tend to get lost in the complex mathematics and specialized jargon of the bond markets. Not Annette Thau. Whether you are an individual investor trying to balance your portfolio with bonds, or a student of finance looking for a more lucid explanation of the subject than you can find in your textbooks, we highly recommend this book to you.
Outstanding Book.......2004-11-03
Very thoroughly written using easy-to-understand layman's terms and minimal bond math.
Anybody who wants to learn bond terminology, some bond math, and the various types of debt securities and strategies should consider this book. I highly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Bloated book, but excellent guide to calculating ROI.......2007-05-09
Edelman has written a massive and bloated opinionnaire on economic systems. But, there is great information here for the readers.
Pg49--"Under capitalism, government and business need capital (money) to achieve their goals. Obtaining capital is their first task, for it allows them to further their objectives--whether social, political, or financial....Businesses and governments raise capital by printing and selling certificates, which they claim have value and are worth buying." It seems to me that Edelman has a high opinion of investing in volatile paper assets, and a low opinion of investing in stable real estate. But, he gives rich details of how money works, and how to run the numbers to assess the returns and risks of any type investment.
book offers bad advice about index funds.......2007-03-01
Edelman's criticisms of index mutual funds are nonsense. Most blatantly, he sets up a false straw dummy, by saying that index funds are claimed to have ZERO trading costs. Rubbish! NO proponent of these has ever said that. Starting with the largest, Vanguard. All providers of index funds (and Exchange Traded Funds) assert that they have trading costs. Edelman surely knows this, yet he goes on to misrepresent index funds. In order to "refute" the "claim" by saying that they do indeed incur these costs. Neophyte readers without any background in financial matters might be taken in. It shows clearly the type of audience that he is aiming at.
Yes, index funds have trading costs. But so do actively managed funds. And the latter almost always do much higher trading. Reflected in the overheads. Index funds have expense ratios (overheads) of around 0.1-0.4%. Active funds are from 0.9-2% or more.
Another claim he makes is that index funds do mechanical buying and selling, without having a human actively consider these decisions. Yet this is a strength of index funds, not a weakness. When an active fund buys or sells, it could be right or wrong. It is not a given that the active fund will even be correct on average. And the current price of a stock reflects this give and take, across all active trading.
Edelman also says that when you buy an index fund, you could get hit with capital gains, if the fund sells stocks with large gains. But the low trading (=long holding periods) of an index fund, mitigates against this. Active funds are more likely to hit you with capital gains, because they trade much more frequently.
The strongest point he makes about index funds is that in a market downturn, they should underperform active funds. Because index funds must stay fully invested, whereas an active fund can have a cash position that cushions the fall in its stocks. Intellectually, this is the most plausible scenario for an active fund to outperform an index.
But hey, you know what? In the last US bear market, 2000-2, the main index funds still outperformed most of the large active funds. (Where both types invested across the market.) It turns out there is no guarantee that an active fund's cash position is sufficient to overcome a bad choice of stocks, whose prices fall more than the market averages. This 3rd edition was written in 2003, yet there is no reference to these events. Edelman did not update his remarks from the earlier editions. Sloppy.
He also quotes Forbes as deprecating on index funds. Wrong. Over the last 20 years, Forbes has consistently written favourably on these. Because the Forbes fund surveys and associated advice look approvingly on low overhead (expense ratio). As they have put it several times, the overhead is the most consistent thing you know about any fund, in bull or bear markets. Their surveys have shown that index funds outperform most active funds.
partially good.......2006-11-15
Problem is part of Rics info is absolutely wrong.
While I agree that a IRA from a bank might promote a cd primarily.
It certainly has not been that way for me for 20+ years.
In my own, case especially, but also having had past girlfriends who worked in several banks, they too have yet to open ira's for anybody with cd's, and that so far none have been approached to go for cd's.
One girlfriend open'd several hundred IRA's over many years, and says that is not even close to valid.
Ive always bought sold stock from within IRA, and have never had a CD.
Though I was given one, and immediately moved it to a Roth IRA and turned it into a more valuable investment.
Btw, investors, you shouldnt be paying to much attention to 'tv based' investment advice... since most of them are consistantly incorrect.
Ie; dont invest based on what you see on tv, but on the basics of investing, not just because a supposed expert says so.
Very informative, good reference.......2006-07-04
This books cover just about all aspects of personal finance. Really good job offering various examples of the investments discussed. Although the info is from the 1990's the theory behind it is the same today. Liked the chapter on bonds and annuities. This book has an updated edition.
True feedback on The Truth About Money.......2006-01-15
Outstanding read. This book should be in everyone's personal library. A must read for all ages and incomes. You can read from cover to cover at one time or read in bits and pieces over time. If you need specific answers, you'll find them. And, if you need a whole perspective in personal finance, it's there, too.
Americans work hard for their money and this book provides information to make the most of our incomes. I've read many books on personal finance, and Ric Edelman's work is simply the best. Forget the hype of Suzzie Orman. Ric is intelligent, humouous, focused, realistic and ethical.

Customer Reviews:
Good Advise, Solid Business Model.......2007-06-13
I originally purchased Anthony Borelli's book 'Affiliate Millions' with two other books' to explore the possibility of starting an eBay business. What I got from Anthony's book is a clear understanding on how to start and implement a successful Affiliate Advertising and Search Marketing business online representing some of the best businesses on the planet. Plus I don't have to buy inventory or ship product! This is a dream business, and this book will teach you how to do it!
Issue #1: A very Misleading and Deceptive Title .... Issue #2: ..........2007-06-12
The stuff explained in the book is outdated to an extend that it should not be applied as described (or even can't).
Issue #3 Some examples would violate a lot affiliate agreements today. A beginner would be ill advised to do some of the things described in the book or will risk getting into serious trouble.
Issue #4 It is aiming at people without any knowledge about internet marketing who probably buy the book, because of the promising title, only to find out the hard way that they wasted not only money, but also time.
If you are a newbie to the subject, do yourself a favor and spend your money on other books from Justin Michie, Jeremy Palmer and Rosalinde Gardner for example.
The only positive thing I could find was the fact that the book is pretty cheap for a new hardcover.
Note:
I also like to note that the book got four reviews with 5 stars. What is funny about them is the fact that all four reviewers only happened to review this one book, with exception of one of them who reviewed a second product on the same day when he reviewed this book.
Either did somebody skew the reviews or the book causes one group of people to get extremely excited and do something they never did before and the other group of people to shake their heads in disbelieve that something like that made it actually to the printing press.
If you read the reviews and this comment, think and make up your own mind. You have a brain and a heart and able to be your own judge.
Affiliate Marketing for Newbies.......2007-06-09
I'm always on the lookout for new books on affiliate marketing, and I recently came across "Affiliate Millions: Make a Fortune Using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond," published April 13, 2007.
The book is geared towards affiliates, and I was anxious to read it, as there are few books about the industry, and a lack of resources to provide quality training for affiliates.
To be honest, I was disappointed in the book. While the book promises the reader they can "Make a Fortune Using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond," the approach was elementary. Not the sort of level that's going to bring somebody their affiliate millions.
The book kicks off with explanations of affiliate and search marketing and then follows with individual chapters dedicated to somewhat intuitive processes like joining an affiliate network, applying to an affiliate program, and setting up a ppc search campaign.
Each step in excruciating detail. It seems like they were trying to reach a word minimum, rather than write a helpful guide for affiliates.
If you're brand new to affiliate marketing, this book could be helpful in pointing you in the right direction. But if you've been working as an affiliate for a couple minutes, you'll have a hard time reading beyond the first chapter.
Also, being that it's a print book, some of the key information is already out of date.
The central theme of Affiliate Millions is that affiliate should buy traffic from the pay per click search engines and send that traffic straight to the advertiser's site.
One of the affiliate programs prominently cited in the book is eBay. The problem with this example is that the strategy endorsed by the book (sending traffic straight from ppc search engines to advertisers) is something the eBay affiliate program no longer permits.
Also, I noticed a screenshot in Chapter 2 (Learning About Affiliate Advertising) where a search on MSN is shown with "iPod Nano" as the keyword being targeted. The Apple affiliate program forbids buying keywords with any of their trademarked names.
So if you get Affiliate Millions, take the advice with a grain of salt. It's a decent introductory book for the newest of new newbies.
Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend the book for affiliate marketers with any degree of experience under their belts.
Solid information that when applied works wonderfully!.......2007-06-08
As the bestselling author of "31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles" I
have researched extensively on this topic, and apply what I have learned,
and this is a fantastic reference directly on one of the topics I mention
from my book.
I really enjoyed the fact you could do the steps and make this information work.
It isn't theory, it is a practical guide to becoming an affiliate marketer and making money from ad options.
If you devoted your efforts, you could acheive what you put into it.

31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles
Excellent Realistic Book on Affiliate Marketing.......2007-05-10
This is an excellent grounded overview of how to go about making money using affiliate marketing through search engines. Great detail on joining affiliate networks and programs and launching your search marketing strategy.
This book does discuss the author's success, but he does not throw a bunch of BS at you about how easy it was or will be for the reader. It takes some capital, hard work, knowledge and a little bit of luck just like most business startups.
An excellent book to start learning about search marketing, with solid resources and references for those that want to read more.

Allowances, Jobs, and Other Money Issues Parents Need to Address.......2006-06-05
Too many children think their parents have an endless supply of money for them to tap into. When denied a purchase, they think the parent is being mean. Setting up a structure and helping your child understand and respect money is a chore, but it will pay off in the long run.
I like that the author advises against credit cards for teens and that she gives advice for dealing with adult children returning home.
Here's what is covered in the book:

Chapter 1: The Perils of Being an Expert [or The Perils of Giving Advice, or something else]

What a parent needs to know to help their kids understand money.......2005-09-17
With each generation the children seem to have more money available to them than their parents. With this should come responsibility and learning how to spend or save wisely. The problem is that most just learn to spend as soon as they get it, get it by begging parents or an allowance with no responsibilities involved or similar. Enter Janet Bodnar, deputy-editor of Kiplinger's Personal Finance, mother of three, and writer of the Money Smart Kids column in Kiplinger Magazine. This is not a collection of hard and fast rules to force good finance habits onto kids but a framework within which parents can use good common sense to handle any situation. The book starts with a quiz to test your money smarts. This quiz is excellent and presents most of the potential situations you are likely to encounter with children and money. The author even includes examples of questions kids ask and how to answer them. One of the insightful sections is one on how kids think about money and how to deal with these concepts from preschool to teenager. Ms. Bodnar even includes a fascinating chapter on questions and answers about money's history, composition, and dozens of other miscellaneous facts. Prepare your children to know how to deal with money when they are grown. Raising Money Smart Kids is highly recommended.
