Assault. Arson. Robbery. Those are the taglines under each of the three mug shots advertising the Mod Squad movie, but they could easily be describing the crime-centric songs driving this hipster vehicle. NYPD poster boy Busta Rhymes--whose weapons-possession charges have landed him more than a few dates in real-life court--leads off with his smug trademark uhh's in "Party Is Goin' On Over Here." The thick rhymes on Everlast's hit single "Ends" dwell on other societal ills: "Some people would rob their mother for the ends." It's easy to draw a thin blue line between the film's troublesome delinquents-turned-undercover-cops and this seamless blend of drawling R&B (Curtis Mayfield, Gerald Levert), skittering club-rat faves (the previously unreleased remix of Bjork's "Alarm Clock"), and, for the rocker kids, some much-welcome fresh material from The Breeders (the serpentine, ABBA-esque "Collage"). Each metropolitan kiss of guns 'n' bass will leave you wanting to fight some of your own crime. --Kristy Ojala
Customer Reviews:
Refreshing.......2003-09-15
Initially, I didn't think too much of this cd, but as I continue to listen to it year after year, I realize it's really good. What I notice most is that it contains some pretty unique and fresh talents, and isn't your typical "cookie cutter" soundtrack. The first 5 songs are excellent, and after that, it's still really good. The only track I'm not too crazy about, is "Goin' Crazy". Lot's of good styles on here, "Everlast" to "Bjork", it's all pretty "mod".
Actually, this is a correction...............2003-04-02
Actually, The Breeders track here IS Kim and Kelley Deal from the Breeders. They recorded this cover version of Collage for the soundtrack. So Pixies and Breeders fans won't be disappointed. My stars rating here is for this song only, a welcom addition to any Deal collection.
try it.......2003-04-01
It's worth Clapton's remake by Davis. Love it - great to drive to - enjoy!!

The Breeders on this soundtrack are not the Breeders you are looking for. Kim Deal is not in this band. If you are a Breeders/Pixies collector be sure you do not buy this CD just for that song!
