Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars There's a reason why it costs so much used........2006-09-21

This is a phenominal soundtrack. I'm listening to the original Sound Spectrum vinyl recording right now and it sounds incredible, much better than most of my vinyl records, and that's a good thing too because I don't know that I'll be spending fifty, or eighty, or whatever bucks it takes to get this on CD.

Really, this is a roller coaster of just plain happy and uplifting music, a genuine musical balloon ride. Isn't it time for a reissue?

4 out of 5 stars A full sound spectrum recording.......2004-12-02

"A full sound spectrum recording of background music featured in Michael Todd's Academy Award Winning film." "In Spectra-Sound." Honest, that's what it says on the front of the album. But don't let that fool you into thinking this is some big joke. They were dead serious.

When Michael Todd wet out to produce the most staggereing spectacle ever filmed, he choose the inimitable VICTOR YOUNG to compose music to match the scope of the movie. In a way, Young's music has weathered much better than the movie. And the techniques used back in 1956 to record those large cinema string sections seem to make the strings shimmer like bright sunlight or light rain, depending on the track. The melodies are ingenious, yet hummable.
