5 out of 5 stars Do You Remember.... Macross?.......2003-09-23

Let's face it, the music in Robotech stank. Long time Macross fans know this, and this CD will appeal to both the uneducated Robotech fan as well as the Macross expert. Music has always played a crucial part in the Macross universe, and no anime music compares to Mari Ijima as Lynn Minmei in the original Macross. With this CD you get her best songs (as well as the original opening and endings) from Macross and Macross The Movie: Do You Remember Love? In addition there are also a few tracks from Macross II: Lovers Again. A translation of the tracks are as follows:

1. Macross
2. My Boyfriend Is A Pilot!
3. Little White Dragon
4. Love Drifts Away
5. Zero-G Love
6. Sunset Beach
7. My Boyfriend Is A Pilot! Part II
8. My Beautiful Place
9. Silver Moon Red Moon
10. Goodbye Gentleness
11. Love Drifts Away Part II
12. Runner
13. Do You Remember Love? - Long Version
14. Angel's Paint
15. Hush of 200 Million Years
16. Promise
17. I Feel You
18. Deja Vu ~ Please Be Close To Me
19. Love You Once More

The only early era songs that this collection is missing are Riding In Your Valkyrie and Only Your Friend from Macross II. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than the 3 disc collection, and has all of the best songs. (sans the background and karaoke stuff). There's no reason why any anime fan should pass up this timeless collection.

5 out of 5 stars Brings back memories!.......2002-01-10

I bet plenty of people who are a little older than your average anime fan remembers Macross. Listening to this CD brings back memories and in my opinion Macross is still the best anime television series ever. This series had it all, the action, the love story, the fighters, and GREAT music.

Robotech is on DVD now and it is a little scary that the series is almost 20 years old. I remember watching it in high school and it rocked back then and it rocks now.

Take my advice and that is drop the money, pop the CD on, sit back and relax. Enjoy it because this is anime's finest series.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Great...(anyone know the words?).......2001-04-08

This collection combines selections from the Macross series, the Macross movie (Do You Remember Love - 1984), and Macross II. You can enjoy this album from start to finish, but I definitely noticed a stylistic difference between the Macross music and the Macross II music. The Macross music is more 'bubblegum' (if that term can be applied to Japanese music), and can get a tad annoying after a few listens. The saccharine feel of the Macross set makes sense though, since this music was primarily written for the character of Ms. Lynn Minmay - the Macross teen pop sensation.

The Macross II music has a late 80's, feel-good, synth-heavy rock sound to it, not unlike something Yellow Dancer from Robotech would sing. Please allow me to break down each track:

Track #1: This is apparently the Macross theme song. I love it - it's a great way to kick off the album. It sounds urgent and triumphant.

Track #2: Sweet. I like it.

Track #3: This song is pretty famous, it's the one Minmay sings before the first Zentraedi attack interrupts her concert.

Track #4: I LOVE THIS SONG. It's a sad slow song, and I'm thinking, it's analagous to Minmei's song, "To Be In Love" from Robotech.

Track #5: Zero G-Love...playful.

Track #6: This song is a disco/R&B track - sounds late 70's, early 80s.

Track #7: A repeat of track #2. I don't hear any difference.

Track #8: This is a decent ballad.

Track #9: This song is cute too. I like the flute in here.

Track #10: This is a 50's sounding ballad. 3/4 time...

Track #11: This is a beefed-up version of track #4 - the slow sad one. Great.

Track #12: This is a sad sounding song, sung by a male vocalist - the same one who sings the Macross theme song, track #1.

Track #13: YES! This is my favorite song from Macross - it contains the line, "I Love You So..." So climactic. It's an incredible ballad. I read somewhere that in Japan, this song topped the charts in the summer of 1984.

Track #14: Great follow-up. This song is so festive and fun. It's celebratory. Love it. This is the end of the original Macross. I remember seeing the 'video' to this song - I think it was called "Flashback 2012" - I loved it.

Track #15: This song is fantastic. If you like anything by Vince DiCola (Transformers: The Movie), you'll love the way guitars and synthesizers are mixed to create a very vibrant sound.

Track #16: A nice midtempo track. I like this one too. Soft rock.

Track #17: This track emerges from absolutely nowhere - extremely mellow. It's acapella, with doo-wopp harmonies. Hands down, the prettiest Macross song (with the exception of 'Voices') ever made.

Track #18: This song could have topped the U.S. charts in the late 80s. Think Richard Marx...great soft rock.

Track #19: Simply Majestic. I know this was the song used in Macross II at the end, as well as during the final battle. It works well.

So there you have it - my interpretation of some music from Macross. Needless to say, I don't understand a word of what's being said, but if someone could translate it for me, that would be really excellent.

Thanks for reading.

Always,

Knyte.
