Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorites!.......2004-11-01

Although the soundtrack for this film did not win any Academy Awards, as did the soundtrack and main theme from BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S--another of my favorites which also starred Audrey Hepburn--it nevertheless ranks as a masterpiece for Henry Mancini and shows his versatility, as did his work on PETER GUNN and THE PINK PANTHER. It captures the sensibility of the early 1960's in a different, but no less real, sense from BAT. The theme is presented in three versions, the vocal version, the carousel version, and the main theme, which suggests both intrigue and romance.

CHARADE itself is somewhat of a spoof of the James Bond/Alfred Hitchcock genre and was set in Paris in the early 1960's, but does showcase the talents of James Coburn and Walter Matthau as well as of Cary Grant and Miss Hepburn. A must for a fan of any or all of these sorely missed stars and one of my personal favorites (I have seen it a number of times but have never tired of it--I have the VHS tape, admittedly not a high quakity reproduction but it will do).
