Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A review?.......2007-03-27

Amazon asked me to do a review, but I don't have much to say. I bought this item and was sent to a friend for a Birthday Gift. She said she loved it (she had been wanting it for a VERY long time) and has not said anything bad about it. There was no mention of skipping or scratches or anything so I'm guessing it was fine.

Sorry if I'm not much help... The product was shipped a little later than I thought it would be, but it arrived at my friend's house only a day or two later than was projected. Overall I was pleased that the item shipped and she received it and was able to listen to it.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful........2006-09-26

Legend of Mana is a game that I feel has always been snubbed or brushed aside by much of the video gamers out there. Despite the completely non-linear storyline (which doesn't necessarily mean that there's a lack of plot), this game has always been one of my favorites, and much of this is owed to the beautiful soundtrack that accompanies the game. The music, composed by Yoko Shimomura (who is known much more recently for doing the Kingdom Hearts soundtracks) is without a doubt some of the best game music I have ever heard. Yoko Shimomura is able to capture so many emotions - happiness, sadness, melancholy, excitement - in such simple songs.

The first disc is definitely the stronger of the two; most of the music for the towns, boss battles, and dungeons is featured on this disc. There are a number of boss battle tracks featured throughout the game, ranging from grinding rock (Marginal Beast, track 23) to a softer, yet more intense sound (Bedight Orbit, track 19). The second disc features more of the shorter tracks (most of the tracks on this disc are under 1 minute), and I think the inclusion of some of these tracks makes it weaker than the first disc. "Play the Organ" & "Play the Organ Pt. 2," for example, are essentially the same songs except for the pauses in the latter, which make it 4 seconds longer. At the same time, though, disc 2 has many of my favorite tracks on it: "City of Flickering Destruction," "Those Who are Shining," "Silence of Time," and of course the theme song, "Song of Mana," song by Annika (which is sung in Swedish, by the way. Why that language was chosen, I don't know, but the song is absolutely beautiful.)

The Legend of Mana soundtrack is one that can definitely stand on its own, and is recommend even if you haven't played the game. If you want to hear more of Yoko Shimomura's music, or if you're looking for a soundtrack with a range of emotions on it, or even if you just want some music that's easy to listen to (this is one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to when studying), I highly recommend this one.
