Following the travails of a resigned secret agent held captive in a strange resort/penal colony, <I>The Prisoner</I> was one of '60s TV's most enigmatic masterpieces. Powered by strong metaphorical currents about the nature of man and freedom, the cult show's irony-fueled musical scores are finally available in a series of three CD's. This third volume is bookended by complete, sound effects free renditions of the Ron Grainer's bracing main title themes and covers the episodes "Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling", "The Girl Who Was Death," and the show's exceptionally bizarre denouements, "Once Upon a Time" and "Fall Out." Split roughly evenly between existing library music and emblematic original pieces by Albert Elms and other composers, the cues gathered here are some of the show's most adventurously strange, spanning a truly dizzy melange of spacey exotica, <I>Austin Powers</I>-inspiring jazz-pop excursions, surreal carnival music, Indian ragas, classical toccata, electro-pop, and twisted martial tunes. This is such an amazing, fun CD. The music is very different from song to song, but it manages to retain its strange, and therefore Prisoner like, quality. Anyone who is a fan of the show will automatically enjoy songs such as "European Drive," which are more relaxed, or more upbeat songs like "Big Dipper" that were featured in the TV show. I must not forget the song "Record Store!" This song was way ahead of its time with a beat resemblant of trip-hop and blaring brass instruments accompanied by low, pounding piano. It truly rocks! The interesting quotes add a nice dynamic to the whole album. I highly recommend this CD. It covers so many genres through the amazing orchestrated pieces composed by Wilfred Josephs, a musically innovative man. I would like to stress that even people completely unfamiliar with The Prisoner will enjoy this CD and will probably want to watch the TV series because of the awesome music, which captures the essence of The Prisoner so well.

Silva America presents the final album in the ongoing "The Prisoner", musical score series. This third CD features episodes that will take you back to 1968 and "The Village". Opening track is "DO NOT FORSAKE ME OH MY DARLING", Number 6 is in the market for a mind transfer ~ "THE GIRL WHO WAS DEATH", females can be dangerous even to Number 6 ~ "ONCE UPON A TIME", many would like to go back to our childhood, but is it such a good idea for our hero ~ "FALL OUT", freedom awaits Number 6, but will he ever be free. Ron Grainer's pulsating theme fashions our character within "The Village", just as we remembered the bizarre cues from the show. Blending jazz mixed with pop composer Albert Elms spins some strange almost intergalactic themes within music from India. The music can actually stand on its own, taking the listener completely under the spell of Grainer and Elms compositions.
