Customer Reviews:
Distinctive, fun, and suitably heroic!.......2006-10-02
This sampling of fully-orchestrated soundtrack selections by Joseph LoDuca from the "Hercules" TV series of the 1990s sound more traditional, perhaps, than his work for "Xena" and "Brotherhood of the Wolf." But it is equally engaging, with great variety of mood and texture. Trademark brass carries the heroic theme, while bassoon is liberally used to express mystery, menace and comic relief. I love it when a soundtrack composer really gets into the material, tying together diverse scenes and techniques by finding ways to parse, reinvent and work that recognizable theme into all sorts of unexpected places. LoDuca does a great job of that--this album really holds together. Listening to it is like reading a story or watching one unfold on the screen. I also love it when composers using a standard full orchestra aren't afraid to incorporate funky world percussion, and LoDuca excels at this as well, to great effect. "A world without music is no world at all," series creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are quoted as saying in the CD insert. "Joe's music, like the great god Prometheus, breathed life into our men and women of dust and celluloid." It does that, and more. It stands on its own, as a distinctive work of art in its own right! Try also LoDuca's music for the "Xena: Warrior Princess" TV series, a spinoff of "Hercules," and also for the movies "Brotherhood of the Wolf" and "Army of Darkness." For more cool soundtracks, check out the work of another imaginative composer, James Newton Howard, for such films as "The Village," "Hidalgo," and "Waterworld."
Hercules Rox.......2005-09-14
I really think this is the best Hercules Soundtrack as well as The best Hercules Season!I hope all the Hercules and Xena fans out there will agree with me.
A Curious Choice Of Styles In Here.......2001-08-26
For me it's very difficult to review something like this soundtrack since Joseph LoDuca uses so many different styles from different composers in the field of film music. The real treat here is the Hercules main title, which is one of the best ever written for T.V. However, there are so many influences from composes like James Horner ("Krull"), Peter Gabriel ("Passion-The Last Temptation Of Christ"), and specially, Basil Poledouris ("Conan The Barbarian", "Robocop", "The Hunt For Red October"), which makes me very difficult to find out LoDuca's own style.
Hereclues.......1999-10-29
I have herd this music there and abouts, but am not as mych a fon of Herecules as I am of Xena. I think the Xena cd is better theough . To get there all you half to do is just click back three times, then go to popler music and type in Xena Warrior princess and go to oringel televishion sound trak and you'll be there ~
