Saturday Night Live star Tim Meadows takes his swinger extraordinaire Leon Phelps to the big screen with the smooth and seductive moves you might expect from this loud and proud funny bigmouth. As polyester as his clothes and 'fro, the soul tunes featured either originate in the 1970s or recall them with appropriate nods to the times. For example, in a blindfold test of New Edition member Johnny Gill's cover of the 1978 Teddy Pendergrass hit "Close the Door," four out of five Gamble & Hill Philly Soul experts wouldn't be able to peg this recording to its year 2000 copyright. Soundtrack producer Marcus Miller expertly recasts the setting with the piano, strings, and groove emblematic of that era. Miller's authenticity streak continues with the instrumental music he provides throughout the movie and includes in brief sections on the album. The addition of R&B legends Al Green, Bobby Womack, the Isley Brothers, Chaka Khan make this the perfect "make-out" album for a real ladies man, or just someone who plays one on TV. --Rob O'Connor

If you liked this character from the classic SNL series, you'll love this movie. Great supporting cast, funny scenes, great premise.

4 out of 5 stars has at least 1 BEAUTIFUL song.......2003-07-01

I haven't had the chance to listen to the entire soundtrack just yet, but I have seen the movie alot, and actually ripped the song "All This Time" from the credits at the end onto a CD. The song is too beautiful for words. It plays alot throughtout the movie but I never noticed it until I was watching it with that "special someone", and the song seemed to play louder than ever before. I'd give the song 10 stars itself, but since I haven't hear the rest of the CD, I couldn't fairly rate it. Lalah Hathaway has one of the most smooth, beautiful voices I have ever had the pleasure of hearing, and its a shame I hadn't heard anything by her until now. Now I have to go back and track all of her older works! Buying this one will definitely be the start, even if it is just for the last song.

4 out of 5 stars What's happenin' ?.......2000-10-12

Ok, so I haven't seen the movie yet, but I love the soundtrack! I'll give you a review of each song so you can be sure whether or not you want to buy it: 1.) MARCUS MILLER - All this time (intro): This is basically just a short instrumental song from the movie. It's ok, but nothing to shout about.

2.) MARCUS MILLER WITH TIM MEADOWS - "It's a lady!": Although this is probably the shortest "song" on the soundtrack, it's one of the funniest. All it is is Tim Meadows saying, "It's a lady!" while being backed up by some instrumental music.

3.) RUFUS FEATURING CHAKA KHAN - Sweet thing: This is one of my favorites. It's slightly up-beat, but slow enough to be a really pretty song.

4.) JOHNNY GILL - Close the door: It starts out sort of slow, but all in all a pretty good song. I think its a remake, but I at least know for sure that there is another version of it, so if you recognize the title, its probably the song you're thinking of.

5.) ISLEY BROTHERS - Don't let me be lonely tonight: This song is ok, but I usually skip it because I think its too slow.

6.) MARCUS MILLER - Have you ever had sex?: This is another instrumental song from the movie. It's pretty good, but the title is the best part.

7.) ROBERTA FLACK AND DONNY HATHAWAY - The closer I get to you: I like this song a lot. It's a pretty song, plus the two singers' voices go well together.

8.) ISLEY BROTHERS - That lady: I like this song, too. It's a nice, upbeat song that has good lyrics (even though their repetitive) and a nice melody.

9.) GROVER WASHINGTON, JR. - Mister magic: It's an instrumental. I like this song. The only thing I don't like about it is that its a bit long.

10.) TEDDY PENDERGRASS - Turn off the lights: An ok song, but a bit slow for my taste.

11.) MARCUS MILLER - Houseboat bonin': A 15 second "song". Its ok, but not much of a song if you ask me.

12.) AL GREEN - Let's stay together: I like this song. Kind of upbeat, and really pretty.

13.) MARCUS MILLER WITH TIM MEADOWS - Leon's poem: This song is the number one reason to buy the cd! It is extremely funny! Not to give away anything, but my favorite line is: "Is not love not unlike the unlikely not it is unliken to?"

14.) BOBBY WOMACK - Lookin' for a love: A really nice upbeat song that I like a lot.

15.) MARCUS MILLER - Radio waves: This is just another waste of space with some instrumental music.

16.) WILLIE HUTCH - I choose you: Another good song on the cd. Just one of those songs that are fun to listen to.

17.) MARCUS MILLER - An old school love: A really good song by Marcus Miller that actually has some lyrics.

18.) PARLIAMENT - Up for the down stroke: I like this song a lot. It's a catchy song with a good beat.

19.) LALAH HATHAWAY WITH MARCUS MILLER - All this time (vocal version): A bit slow, but good enough to listen to.
