OLD SCHOOL ROCKERS TEAR YOU A NEW ONE...........2006-05-23
NINE OUT OF TEN SONGS ARE NECESSARY TO HAVE IN YOUR COLLECTION.
Kids, kids, kids... these are rare gems that you may not have in your collection... Rock and Roll Balls. Impress your friends with mind blowing riffs!
There are two different movies, and two different soundtracks. DOGTOWN AND Z BOYS was the documentary movie, and heres the deal with bitchin soundtracks.
Both are excellent collections of music. This, being the soundtrack to the documentary, and in my opinion the better disc.. even though it is shorter. You should check out the soundtrack to the the other film to, as it has some good old acid metal and seventies punk, mixed up with some newer punk bands covering classics.
This particular disc though contains ten choice seventies rockers, that you more than likely won't find on any TIME LIFE SOUNDS OF THE SEVENTIES collection (except maybe MAGGIE MAY, but whatever... you may like that tune anyway.., I don't, but you might.)
The rest is straight from the goldmine. Underground rockers from a time when rock was truly bad ass. HENDRIX version of EASY RIDER is a nasty way to kick things off. Then we just get smashed with cuts from THE NUGE, THE COOP, THIN LIZZY, ZZ TOP, THE STOOGES, T.REX... JOE WALSH( who is kind of a goon, but the represented track is cool)...
I dunno what more I can say on this. The music will do the talking. This is a great door to some of the more unsurfaced seventies rock (check out the other soundtrack to LORDS OF DOGTOWN).. its the OLD SCHOOL sh**. Either bust out your bananna board, or cruise some Daisy Dukes down at the surf bro.. but make sure this disc is LOUD!
AN ABSOLUTE CRIME.......2005-11-06
One of the few documentaries that has actually meant something to me and generations of like minded folks. It is such a shame that this is the best that could be done as a means of representing the movie. Were Kazaa alive today I would create my own cd following the chronological order of the closing credits.
Well, worse has been done (i.e. Bush + Iraq) so I should not complain, but instead I'll protest and not buy this incredibly lame misrepresentation of an incredibly well made documentary!

A Great Start.......2003-03-31
If you love this movie (and I'm sure you do or you wouldn't be looking at this CD), than you are probably wondering where some of the essential songs are that were in the film. My guess: Copyright issues. It is a pain making a compilation. Oh well, all the same -- this is a good start. But here are some of the missing tracks you'll want to add to your own collection. Seasons of Wither (Aerosmith), Hots On For Nowhere (Zepplin), Alladin Sane (David Bowie), Godzilla (Blue Oyster Cult), Fast Cars (Buzzcocks), Gut Feeling (Devo), and One Way Out (Allman Brothers). There are others including Sidwalking Surfing (Jan & Dean), Sneaker Pimps, more Hendrix, more Bowie, more Zepplin, and more Iggy.
What is Good Could Have Been Great.......2002-09-10
The movie was great and I've watched it so many times on DVD because of the energy and attitude and the music plays a big part of it. That being said, I always feel a movie soundtrack should bring you back to that energy and attitude. Unfortunately, many songs listed in the credits are not on this CD: Jimi Hendrix's "Freedom" most notable in the movie is missing, as well as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Pink Floyd and many others. If they could have just followed the movie's flow it would have been a great compilation of some of the best of the 60's and 70's.
