Customer Reviews:
An Outstanding Collection of Music.......2006-03-22
The soundtrack of Philadelphia is excellent with multiple tracks that are worthy of purchasing the album. I personally enjoy Neil Young's "Philadelphia" which I believe is one of his best songs and should have won the Oscar for Best Song. I definitely recommend adding the album to your collection.
Philadelphia, classic Neil Young.......2005-08-02
Whilst the opening track and probably best known song from the movie is Springsteens Streets of Philadelphia, without doubt the classic track on the album is Neil Young's, Philadelphia. This is Young at his haunting best. Chuck in some good stuff from Indigo Girls, and some good covers, makes one of the better soundtracks around. Good listening.
Wonderful.......2004-12-17
Just listen to "Philadelphia" by Neil Young. A sad reflective masterpiece.Still cry when I listen to it.
Good but flawed.......2004-07-21
"Philadelphia" is my personal favorite film that Tom Hanks has been, well next to "Splash" of course ;). The film was an emotionally heartwrenching to watch as Tom Hanks' character is suffering from AIDS as well as from homophobia. I have to admit that there were a couple of songs that I never liked to begin with. As much as I like Peter Gabriel, I did not particularly care for his song "Lovetown". Never heard of Ram but I didn't like his song either. I don't have anything against Peter Gabriel but that song was one of the weaker tracks on the soundtrack (along with the RAM track) I think. Other than that particular songs, I love the soundtrack. I especially love the sultry Sade track "Please Send Me Someone to Love". Sade can do no wrong. Her velvety voice is a pure joy to listen to. Although I am not a fan of the Spin Doctors, I must confess to liking their cover of CCR's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?". Granted the original version is vastly superior, the Spin Doctor's version is not bad. I have heard much worse cover songs by artists/bands I do like. I love the Indigo Girls' "I Don't Wanna Talk About It". That is one of my personal favorite songs by the Indigo Girls. The most emotional moments in the film came from the Maria Callas ("La Mamma Morta") and Neil Young ("Philadelphia") songs. Those two songs really drove the poignancy and heartache of the film. Despite not liking two of the songs on the cd, I still love the soundtrack to "Philadelphia".
