This sunny comic fable from idiosyncratic director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (<I>City of Lost Children</I>, <I>Alien Resurrection</I>, <I>Delicatessen</I>) boasts any number of intimate charms, not the least of which is Yann Tiersen's warmly inviting score. Composer and multi-instrumentalist Tiersen's work and training may have masterfully encompassed classical, pop, and rock, but his delightful <I>Amélie</I> music proves he is slave to none. In this, his fourth soundtrack, Tiersen displays an impressive command of idiom and melodic subtlety that's rightfully drawn comparisons to the great Nino Rota. With a Paris-set story driven by blossoming love, the composer frequently leans on the familiar Parisian street accordion motif as a starting point. If that sounds clichéd, it's anything but; Tiersen's delicate touch incorporates Gypsy flourishes, classical string ensembles, electronics, stark and lovely solo piano, and even minimalist technique--often in the same charming cue. The result is music that manages to sound variously breezy, fresh, and contemporary, yet somehow comfortably familiar. <I>Amélie</I> is a warm, postmodernist score that never forgets where its heart lies. <I>--Jerry McCulley</I>

Throw away your Zoloft, Paxil, whatever... Just put on this soundtrack and smile! Witty, charming yet soulful, this CD is absolutely fabulous. It's impossible to be depressed while listening to this music. I find that whatever I'm doing, I do it better with this CD playing. Even my cat and greyhound seem happier when they hear it. Go get it! Your world will be a better place.

5 out of 5 stars Sublime soundtrack! .......2007-04-04

Amelie was one of the most original films made at the last year of the XX Century. His magic spell still continues feeding our imagination and arousing memorable sentiments, a film plenty of humanity and original humor all the way through .

But the music is by itself another important factor to take into account. This selection of unforgettable and pleasant themes work out as a watch making mechanism. Lovable and remarkable themes that united to your memories about this outstanding film, make this is worth buy.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful soundtrack.......2007-03-23

I was so impressed by the soundtrack to Amelie that I had to buy it. I was not disappointed with what I received. All of the songs I liked from the movie were on it. The soundtrack changes moods from playful to pensive, and happy to sad. Tiersen's creative piano arrangements (along with other less conventional instruments) are charming and reminiscent of Satie. It's a beautiful soundtrack. I also purchased Tiersen's Rue de Cascades. I was not disappinted with either CD. If you love beautiful, thought provoking music, Tiersen's works are a must have, "Amelie" included.

5 out of 5 stars Very good.......2007-03-15

My son who plays piano liked this music so much he bought some of the sheet music. I rarely purchase movie soundtrack music but I felt the music in the movie made it worth it.
