5 out of 5 stars An overlooked hip-hop pioneer.......2006-03-03

"Songs I Hate (And Other People Moments)" is Sixtoo's 3rd (proper) album. It was originally released on 6months and was later redistributed on the Anticon label. Here we get Sixtoo's greatest progression to date. His production, although minimal, is improving with every release. His flow and lyrics have also improved from the "Psyche" era. Most notably, his love for long compositions are seen here. In many cases, his soulful lyrics hold more weight than they ever had before. The album is sequenced in a fashion that flows better than his earlier records as well.

The album opens up with "One World Lost" and "Grimey Inks The Moment"; a couple of his finest works to date. The mood is somber and very personal. My current favorite is probably the 14-minute "Work In Progress". He changes up his flow quite a bit here. It has beautiful structure that would be more prominently executed on his later records. That's really what separates this album from his others - structure. You are taken on a journey through his moody production that never lulls or becomes uneasy to listen to. The best example of that style is represented on the 35-minute epic "The Canada Project" featuring label-mate Buck 65, 2-time Scribble Jam battle winner Adeem, and battle/poetry slam champ Sage Francis. Sixtoo really has captured the best from these emcees on the track. Sage Francis stops by again with Anticon founder Sole on "When Freedom Rings" - another excellent track. "All New Mad Max Song" is another gem featuring Recyclone. The big posse cut on the record is "L.F.T.F.C.G.B." featuring JD Walker, Pip Skid, Sole, and Canadian greats Josh Martinez, Knowself, Kunga 219.
