Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars NO MORE RIPOFFS!.......2006-10-24

This wonderful album has finally been re-released on CD, so there is no reason to pay the sort of money that some of these sellers are asking for the 12-year-old out of print release.

5 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2006-02-13

After doing a little research online, I found out that there are plans to re-release this album some time in 2006. I'm going to save my money until that time.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful disc - but there may be a problem.......2006-02-04

I loved this album from the moment that I heard it in 1970, and recently began searching for it on cd. I found an Edsel disc and while it played perfectly at first it developed a problem on track 10. There were no marks on the disc. I had it cleaned with no luck, and I had it checked by a computer whiz who thought that some of her software might find a solution. No luck. I also obtained a cdr made from an Edsel disc and it also developed a problem on a different track. It seems that there MAY be a problem with the Edsel pressing. And while I would probably pay $75 or so for a Japanese pressing (they are generally higher quality than many others), $400 is just ridiculous! Find a vinyl
copy and have it transferred to cd. There are companies that do that for $60-100.

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant wreckage.......2005-03-31

I first heard the song Mississippi over WNEW-AM in 1970 and immediately bought the LP. I of course knew of the Mamas and Papas but never was a big fan. But this record brought me up short. Simple songs, simply played with a nice touch of country. I learned later of John's personal situation and have always thought that some of that came through the grooves. There is a feeling of dissipation and lassitude that is palpable to the listener. Almost as if nothing good was about to happen to its creator and he knows it.
