Cliff Richard Rocks!.......2007-04-10

Its a real shame the American audience never fully appreciated this very talented rocker from England. His mellow voice and terrific writing ability make this anthology well worth the price. I bought the collection to have the collaborations with other stars- Suddenly was a big hit here-and the songs that did make it to the charts- Devil Woman and A Little in Love. One of the best songs is Miss you Nights, one of the best ballads in Rock. That song alone is worth the price of the entire group. If you are a real fan of the history of rock, you need this for your collection.

Since I grew up in England Cliff Richard was always a favourite of mine & this collection really covers all types of his talent .I am very pleased with my purchase.

Excellent music from a great performer!.......2006-05-24

American readers will wonder "Who is this Cliff Richard guy, and does he really have any platinum hits?" Well, Cliff Richard has a long and illustrious career in Great Britain. His career started in the 1950s as an Elvis-knock off. Unfortunately, his career never took off in the US--we had Elvis and a bunch of other great ones. Nevertheless, Cliff has managed to have one of the most successful careers in British chart history. He's had 14 chart toppers, over 125 chart singles and at least one number one in every decade since the 50s (we're still waiting for the number one in 00s, though). Americans might remember some of the few hits he has had in the US from the late 1970s and early 80s: Devil Woman, We Don't Talk Anymore, Dreamin', and the duet with Olivia Newton-John, Suddenly. Other than those, probably everything else on this collection will be new to the listener. What, then, is there on the collection?

Well, we have the late 50's and early 60s rock n' roll songs. Not as hard as Elvis, but rather more in the mold of Rick Nelson. It's too bad that some of these songs did not make it in the US. They are really good. "Move It" is one of the greatest songs in British R n' R history. Although his career suffered at the hands of the Beatles, Cliff did not get wiped out by them, but was able to change his music and image to fit the times. `On the Beach' is a great, rockin' tune (The German version "Nur mit dir" is actually much better, though!). Of course, things sag for Cliff considerably in the early 70s (didn't everything sag in the early 70s?), but the late 70s see some very good songs. In the early 80s, Cliff reestablishes himself with some great pop tunes, and these continue to the present.

This collection includes nearly every one of Cliff's British top ten hits--over 60 songs--and all the songs hit at least the top 20. That's amazing and a testimony to the quality of Cliff's music. Buy this set--you'll find some real gems here. I highly recommend it!
