Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Wild, yes---but tame compared to other Ventures CDs.......2003-09-06

Cool as the Ventures still are, this particular album lacks the kick they still have. "Wild Again" starts off powerfully, but once you get to their weak take on Beethoven's Fifth (although I LOVE the title Beethoven Five-Oh!!!), the tracks begin lose a lot of lustre.

If you are a die-hard Ventures fan, there are enough enjoyable tunes here. If, on the other hand, you want to pick up just one excellent modern day Ventures CD that packs a similar feel, but with an absolutely solid and passionate performance from start to finish, I strongly urge you to check out their "New Depths" album.

"Wild Again" is decent enough, but definitely not The Ventures at their finest.

5 out of 5 stars Ventures-wild again!!.......2001-12-04

These guys haven't put out a bad album yet, and this one rates up there with their original recordings. Calling in Duane Eddy to do "I fought the Law" was brilliant. I bought two copies of this, in case I break one. I don't do that often. If you are not a ventures fan, this CD will convert you!

5 out of 5 stars New Ventures, old and great sound.......2001-05-23

If you're already a Ventures fan, stop, read no further. Just buy the CD, you're going to love it. Its as good as anything they've done, the sound quality is superb--and, yes, you did enter a time warp and its now 1963 again! Enjoy and have fun, I am. Oh, yeah, don't forget to buy the other one in the set too!

Casual fan of the Ventures -- you've heard of them, heard some of their music and wonder about another CD or two? Well, you could do a lot worse than this one, for sure (and its companion Wild Again 2, New Depths). Their catalog is large so its hard to choose, but this CD is so good and so much fun I'd have to recommend it even over many of the real classics. Purists will argue that this isn't "pure" Ventures because of the various other artist that join them for a cut or two. But every one of the guests is nearly as much a part of Ventures history as the basic 4 or 5 guys. And this CD is very much a return to the classic style of rock instrumentals these guys pioneered (some argue invented). Like most of the Ventures' hundreds of releases, this one is a mix of original material and covers. The liner notes include the interesting comment that the working title for the 2 CDs was "Hits We Missed" -- things they either never did before, tracks never on US released or for a few of them, Ventures' standards updated, redone and fresh.

New to the Ventures entirely? Hmmm... tough choices. First you should try out one of the compilations -- there are many but I like "Stars On Guitars" (2 CD set) and EMI's "Walk Don't Run, the best of the ventures" for an excellent single CD compilation. Like what you hear there? Well then, come back and get this refer to the paragraph above--in other words get this one!

Got the idea that I liked this one? then the message came across just fine!

4 out of 5 stars "Sent us back in time".......2000-03-06

When you think of "Walk Don't Run" and "Hawaii Five-O" one name comes to mind - The Ventures. Almost 40 albums and 17 hits on the top 40. They became popular world-wide during the '60s, and again in Europe and Japan where they toured in the '70s and '80s. The original members Bob Bogle (bass guitar, lead guitar) and Don Wilson (rhythm guitar) started the biggest-selling instrumental group of all time, they have touched many other artists to this day.

The entire album is outstanding, with the sound we all grew up with. A stand out - BAJA (Lee Hazelwood) with an awesome arrangement and non-stop Venture charisma. Neil Norman and GNP/Crescendo have sent us back in time, on a summers day at the local swimming pool - playing your favorite Ventures tune!
