This split single between Sense Field and Running from Dharma was an unexpected treat for me. I'm a big SF fan, and upon picking this up today I was pleasantly surprised that the two studio tracks are Smiths covers, and great Smiths songs at that. (side note: even the single looks like a Smiths single, with random people in mundane settings on the cover yet somehow fitting in with the songs)

Sense Field gives "What Difference Does It Make?" a hard-rocking kick very close to the original Smiths self-titled 1984 lp version, only it turns the volume up louder. They did this song justice, while at the same time remaining faithful to the forlorn tenderness that previously only Morrissey could pull off. The live track of theirs, "Soft", suffers a bit from muddy sound, but it shows how tight of a band Sense Field is.

Running from Dharma, however, did the impossible: they turned "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" (originally off of the Smiths' 1986 classic 'The Queen is Dead') into an emo rock track, and they did it amazingly well. They've managed to squeeze even more emotion out of this song, turning it from a cozy autumn stroll type of song into a late-autumn, nearly-winter chill. Their second track on this ep is an acoustic take of "Drive Not Driving."
