Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Pure fun!!!.......2003-12-02

Read all of the good reviews below --- believe them --- dey be right on target, amigo! As regards the uptightriptideconstipated comments on sound quality made by some of the reviewers below --- were any of you alive when transistor radios were around? Geez, guys, don't you get it? The sound is perfect for the songs! It's supposed to sound cheesy and garagey and cheapononhightecho! Why do you think it's called garage music? Finally, regarding the idiot (see below) who stated that he will burn his favorite tracks and then re-sell the CD--- why don't you burn yourself, instead? With fans like you, who needs critics? Nice way to support a great and truly fun band, guy...Good grief!!!

Overall, this is GREAT, FUN, WIGGLEYOURBUNS stuff --- yeah, not as loud and raucous as previous LS stuff, but who cares?! This is a supercooliciouscheesygreaseburgerfest of an album. So there --- raspberry sounds galore to all of those who just don't get it, and especially to those below who trashed it. If you just want the sameoldsameold, just listen to Classic (puke!) Rock Radio. To the rest of you who appreciate it and want your music to be fun --- cowabunga, baby! Let's don the masks, hit the ropes, and groovydoovy!!! May the Jackets rock 4-ever. Aloha.

P.S. Yes, I am certifiably insane.

3 out of 5 stars Good, not great..........2003-11-19

Good album, but missing the energy of some of the previous albums. I think Velvet Touch... is still their best album (although I am dying to get my hands on the Christmas CD). At times, Supersonic Guitars just sounds flat. I also agree with previous reviews that the production isn't as good. Previous LS albums have some snap to them... this one sounds a little muted. These guys really rock, but just not very much on Supersonic Guitars. By yourself an early Christmas present, and see them live.

4 out of 5 stars I got mine autographed by Danny Amis!.......2003-11-17

This is another fine instrumental rock album from the modern masters of the genre. Some may call it "surf music", but it really isn't. They don't play the kind of guitars typically found in a surf band, and their music is more eclectic than your average surf band. Their is certainly a surf influence here, but they seem to be more influenced by non-surf intrumental bands, like the Ventures and Davie Allen & the Arrows. Anyway, this album is a lot of fun and will be enjoyed by fans of good time instrumental rock and roll.

2 out of 5 stars Skip this one - buy all the others.......2003-10-24

This just isn't Los Straitjackets to my ear. The tunes generally lack melody - where are all those great surf style hooks? It's all replaced by a "heavy" sound that misses the fun that the Straitjackets are known for. I also think Ben Vaughn's production work is sorely missed. While the recording quality is good, it has a gritty feel that would be more appropriate for an R&B record. I hope their next CD will be a return to form.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2003-10-15

First of all, the flat production on Velvet sucked, not this album. This is sixties inspired all the way and the sound fits the songs and mood. I really don't understand how some fans don't appreciate this album unless they haven't given it enough listens. Isn't Love Grand is great, Beach Bag rocks with some truly bitchin' solos, Midnight in Salerno has gotta be one of Danny Amis' best tracks, and the drumming is definately out of control all the way through. The shorter song lengths fit the group better as well, since, let's face it, any album can be tough to sit through all they way, let alone instrumental music. If you like Los Straitjackets, I gurantee you'll like most of this and isn't that worth the 12 bucks?
