Album Description
In the pantheon of great Blues heroes, the name Amos Milburn may not be carved out in as large letters as those of some of his better-known contemporaries, but there can be no denying the importance of Milburn's recordings back in the '40s and early '50s, at a time when black jump blues were quickly metamorphosing into what subsequently became rock and roll. Today, Amos Milburn is remembered mostly for many of his legendary drinking songs - 'Bad, Bad Whiskey' and 'One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer' to name but a couple - and for the electrifying boogie woogie piano style that became the hallmark of many of his recordings. Milburn, however, was also noted for his performances of mellow ballads and slow blues numbers, which served to underline the versatility of his style and musicianship, and which have certainly passed the test of time. 2 CDs. Blue Orchid. 2005.
