4 out of 5 stars Better Than Ever.......2001-02-23

Duncan Faure may be unknown to many music fans yet this South African native is LOADED with talent. Duncan made his first break back in the 70's with the South African hit group Rabbitt. Faure then went on to lead the (Bay City) Rollers from 1978 to 1981 following the departure of the Rollers' previous lead singer. Duncan's addition to the Rollers' lineup was marked by significant growth in the complexity and depth of the music the Rollers later produced (likely due to the creative energy Duncan brought to the group). Duncan went on to several other projects through the 80's and into the 90's. "Pronounced Four-uh" features some of Duncan's best work to date with punchy, assertive tunes. Duncan wrote most of the tunes, plays most of the instruments and performs most of the vocals. The album has a feel of progressive Beatles and would find a good home on the college radio play circuit. Hopefully, records companies and radio stations will discover what Faure's fans have always known. That after twenty-five years of recording, Duncan Faure shows that he still is (as the single says) "Better than Ever". Well worth a listen!

4 out of 5 stars Here Is THE Music!.......1999-11-17

I've been a fan of the man for 20 years and have therefore always known that he is a musical genius. It appears, though, at long last that he seems to be coming into his own, and is starting to get fully comfortable with being solo. And not a minute too soon. The stripped down, demoed simplicity of this record threw me off a bit at first, but when you get into the songs all that's quickly forgotten. The only beef I have with this album is the inclusion of the two OLD songs on it, "Brother"(edit) and "Man Of A Thousand Dreams", both of which also appeared on Duncan's 1996 album, "For The Rights Of All Man". Also the re-recording of "Where Is The Music" seems a tad unnecessary. Why not include rather recent classics like "Lovelight" and "So Hard", which have yet to be released, instead? But however puzzling all that is, this album can only be recommended to anyone who's into this type of music (Power Pop, is it?) I, though, object to Duncan's music being constantly compared to that of overrated, suicidal, early Brit Pop band's Badfinger, whose main historical "importance" lies in the fact that they were tight with Macca. Duncan's much better than that. Standouts: "Better Than Ever"(the title says it all, really); "(The Way That) I Like It"; "This Is Love, This Is Real" & "Seen The Way You Look At Me".

4 out of 5 stars GREAT CD! Rockers to Ballads....Recommend HIGHLY!.......1999-10-14

I LOVE THIS CD! "Better Than Ever" is such a catchy tune. I find myself singing it all day long. "Seen the Way" is a true "Faure" ballad, sung from the heart...It's a beauty! "This Is Love, This Is Real" ROCKS! Looking forward, (with anticipation) to MORE from this AMAZING man!
