Do better next time.......2004-08-31
Johnny Marr's Boomslang is not that good of an album. Groups like the Smiths always released b-sides that were almost as good as their a-sides, so I was hoping this Madchester tradition would carry over to Johnny's first and, so far, only single.
Bangin' On, in itself, is an okay song. It definitely is the most energetic from Boomslang and fits nicely into the "A for effort" category.
Here It Comes is so boring, I don't know where to begin. This is faceless guitar pop that tastes like a rice cake. In other words, no taste to be found. I can't even remember how it goes.
With Get Me Wrong, Johnny Marr is finally starting to get to some sort of point. Its foundation in a grooves makes it sharply similar to You Are The Magic from Boomslang (which might explain why it was left off). But just as Johnny was starting to shake up the formula a little bit, the CD ends.
In summary, the Bangin' On single is one okay song + one fair song + one banal song. Don't get it unless you really really really want it.
