3 out of 5 stars As weak an ending to a cd as I've ever heard.......2004-04-01

I really liked the cd. I was kind of digging it, until the end. Weight is an awful song, and the Way It Goes is okay, but in comparison to the rest of the cd is nothing but a filler song. I am ranking this the same as the first cd, but for different reasons. The first cd was so bad at times it was funny; this one on the other hand, seeing as how the potential was so good for a good cd, putting in fillers really diminishes the cd. It could have been nine or ten really good songs instead of 12 songs, three of which were a waste of time to listen to. Now, it's not a one star like one of the other raters put it, but it's not a five star either. I'll stick with my ranking and keep it pretty average. Schon's contribution was pretty good, but it just didn't fit on the cd. I guess the words were too good compared to the rest, if that makes sense. A deep lyric song on a cd of this genre just doesn't really fit, in my opinion. Like I said, though, it's not a bad cd; it's just not great, either.

1 out of 5 stars Missing Neal Schon.......2003-03-12

I Expected the band of ten years ago but this is different. As a musician I listened for the same vocal intensity and musicianship as in the Smash hit "In the Hands of Time" that hooked me on this band in the first place. The tracks on this CD seem to wander around looking for that same intensity but continually fall short. The melodies are not. . . melodies that is. They are 4 and 5 chord progressions that illicit doubt instead of inspiration. I wanted to love this album, and maybe that is the problem, the last one was precise, concentrated, and inspired thematic music but this one seems like a collection of great starts but the themes don't develop into a coherent chorus to accent the thoughts they were supposed to begin for us. The recording is professional, and the instrument playing is the original quality. I just cant find anything emotionally satisfying about the tracks, not even one of them got my attention as worth the price I paid.

5 out of 5 stars They're back...and still amazing!!!.......2002-12-28

Whoa! Once again, an awesome collection of hard rock tunes on this second effort by the band that could have been bigger than Bon Jovi. They were just a couple years too late with Double Eclipse. "II" was going to be titled "Hyperspace," but the band wanted a simpler title for the second recording. "II" is more aggressive than the melodic Double Eclipse. The opening track, "Hold Me Down," is perfectly placed to set the tone for the rest of the CD. Next is "Y," another aggressive, yet radio-friendly song that has some melodies close to "Blind Revolution Mad" from Winger's Pull CD. Following "Y" is "Paralyzed," which is one of the more melodic songs on the CD. "Face The Night" is next and is the band's "80's metal" heavy ballad of the CD. Nice melodies along with heavy guitars makes this one of the CD's highlights. "Do Or Die" follows "Face The Night," and quickly gets you back into aggresive mode once again. The next three songs, "Hey Girl," "Only A Night," and "Your Eyes" sound as if they were written during the Gioeli brothers' Brunette days. "Only A Night" is the CD's softest song, almost all acoustic. The next two songs, "Weight" and "Way It Is Way It Goes" are the two best songs of the CD. Heavy, aggressive, and melodic. The last song is "This Gift," featuring former Hardline and current Journey guitarist Neal Schon. The trademark Neal Schon sound is evident on this one, and it closes the CD with style. If you own Double Eclipse, why don't you have this one yet? If you've never heard of Hardline, well, you're in for a real treat because these guys are incredible!
