Having outgrown their Stray Cats and Green Day phases, the Living End join forces with Midnight Oil and Silverchair producer Nick Launay for an album that firmly establishes them as Australia's Great Rock Hope. Like late, great power-pop revivalists Material Issue (to whom the chorus of "Dirty Man" bears a more than passing resemblance), this Melbourne power trio fully justifies their plundering of past musical forms thanks to enthusiasm, chops, and songwriting talent. From the fist-in-the-air populism of its title track to the anthemic "Silent Victory" (which Launay gives the full Midnight Oil treatment), Roll On signals the Living End's readiness for an international pop overthrow. --Bill Forman

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Living End.......2001-03-21

The Living End brings together all the best elements of rock and punk music to make a fast paced, exciting experience. They have an excellent mastery of the instraments that they play, more so than many other bands out there. They are the biggest band out of Austrailia since AC/DC, and they're just as good or better. I was never a fan of hard rock and punck music but this band is an exception. They are original and refreshing.

4 out of 5 stars Rock & Roll is NOT dead!!!!!!!!!!.......2001-03-14

Yes folks , rock and roll is not dead !!!! With the proliferation of boy bands and pop pap it is great to hear a band that rock simply because they love to.Having recently seen them on tour with the mighty AC/DC it's great that they can both turn the amps to 11 and rock out.The album itself is full of chunky nuggets of riff-o-rama that are best heard LOUD.The music ,while not straying to far from their previous album ,still exhibits the sense of fun , urgency and ferocity that makes this band a fave of lovers of many different styles of rock/punk/rockabilly.Go and buy the album , see them live and enjoy basking in the glow of pure rock fun.

5 out of 5 stars As good, if not better than debut.......2000-12-22

The album rocks and is a step forward, with a more refined and heavier rock sound. The album has its moments "Roll On", "Riot On Broadway", "Staring At The Light" and "Revolution Regained". The only critcism is that some tracks sound musically sort of similar to their debut, otherwise the album is as good if not better, than their debut.

4 out of 5 stars The Living End Rock On!.......2000-12-22

The follow up to the band's ultra-successful self-titled debut is more than a worthy successor. Roll On is an evolutionary step for the trio with the punk/rockabilly approach of the first album being modified for a straight out rock feel with some songs essentially pop.

Lead singer/guitarist Chris Cheney has confirmed his repuation as Australia's best guitarist with his work on this album. Some of his riffs here are simply stunning. Cheney also proves himself an accomplished song writer, speaking out on Australian social issues such as immigration, the East Timor crisis and the docks dispute, and a talented singer, backed by an excellent rhythm section of upright bassist Scott Owen and drummer Travis Dempsey.

This album is a slick production, full of energy and fresh ideas and it is great to see that band confidently add another string to their bow. Highlights here include the first single Pictures in the Mirror, Dirty Man, Riot on Broadway and Staring at the Light but to be honest there is hardly a bad song on the album. The chanted Uncle Harry features hilarious lyrics and is sure to be a live classic!

This is far from an example of the dreaded 'second album blues'. Fans of the band and newcomers alike will not be disappointed with this - highly recommended.
