I Love This Band!.......2001-12-14

If G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies got together with Il Duce from The Mentors and decided to make bubblegum flavored pie, this is the album that would've come out of their stolen Easy Bake Oven. I've read some of the reviews here and am convinced that the brilliance of the Beanweevils has been completely lost upon the "sophisticated ears" of these Beanweevil naysayers. That's ok boys, enjoy your new Train cd. Oh, and by the way, don't forget to pick up those Dave Matthews tickets!

I Just Had To Know.......2001-12-13

I just had to know what this band sounded like due to the many colorful descriptions in the review section. In my humble opinion, the harmonies are very enjoyable and the lyrics seem to have embedded themselves deep into my brain( I find myself singing these songs all the time even if I don't want to). I don't know about the rest of you but I think "Take A Bus" is an amazing song. Catchy as all get out. I am pleasantly pleased with my purchase.

trannies, the San Francisco treat.......2001-12-12

So I was with my wife on vacation in San Francisco. This weird skinny guy with purple hair picks me up in his cab. Tells us his name is "Bean". Reminded me of a 40 year-old teenager. He makes me listen to his music...it's great, but Bean is really annoying. He tries to get me to have sex with a transsexual hooker, sez he'll pay,....can use the receipt for tax purposes, "Research" he sez.

My wife was appalled. Actually I was a little intrigued. But later I talked it over with our pastor when we got back home.

I dunno....I think this kind of music and lifestyle is interesting to view from afar, (music like the Beenweavils, movies like "Reality Bites" and "Something about Mary"....you know, off-beat stuff), but not something in which I am interested in participating up close.

I did find myself humming the beanweevils' dirty little melodies at work the following week, (vice-president of a firm that manufactures patriotic calenders and throw rugs) and after only one listen in that ill-fated cab ride. I just ordered the CD on my company gold card. Business is good this year. But shhhh.....Don't tell....

(...)The Beanweevils INSTANTLY struck my fancy. Their poppie Violent Femme, PartridgeFamilyesque sound, mixed with the outrageously silly, sweet, regional, rude, insanely honest lyrics, thrill my brain for hours. AND I LOVE THAT.

Additionally, they got it SO right on with the Bay Area allusions - classic.

My closest friends call me the repeater. I earned this name as a result of OVERPLAYING classics like Nothing's Shocking, Blood on the Tracks, and ironically, Repeater. This is because, in my humble and non-professional opinion, few things please me, so when something does, I suck it dry. I did this with the Beanweevils.
