Customer Reviews:
Good, but could've been better.......2003-09-02
From an experienced fan's point of view, the problem with this CD is that it was recorded a year too early. Their second Union Chapel December concert, the following year, offered a greater variety of material - i.e the rocking stuff got more of a look-in - and more impassioned performances. Here, only `Outshine The Sun' (and `Farewell Mr Sorrow' on the limited edition bonus disc) capture in the Eves in full-on rock mode. More importantly, though, this disc is electric of instrument but not of performance. On softer (`December') and harder (`Wild Hearted Woman') songs alike, the band (inclding Julianne) are operating at reduced intensity.
The disc is hardly a write-off though - it works as a companion to the acoustic live discs, allowing you to hear those new arrangements of old songs in fleshed-out form. And two of the Willson-Piper solo songs in their repertoire are reprised here. It's just not the sort of disc I would recommend to anyone who isn't an experienced fan, as it doesn't really represent the 2000/1 electric tours at their best.
