Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars charming..........2006-06-23

'through small windows' is one of those albums that teeters on the edge of falling into a pit of its own cuteness. fortunately, caitlin brice and pals, aka alsace lorraine, saves the album from overt pretentiousness with charming vocals, a nice diy pop aesthetic, and truly pleasant melodies.

'through small windows' has the same whimsical, casio-keyboard, charming feel as the early magnetic fields records, particularly 'holiday.' the songs on 'through small windows' don't beat you over the head. instead, they're like a fire in the corner of the room during a cold night -- you know it's there, you can feel the warmth, you comfortable under a blanket, but you're not sweating to death. that's probably a poor analogy, but that's the feeling the majority of the tracks on 'through small windows' gives me.

'through small windows' isn't the album for people looking for a revolutionary or genre-defining or artistic statement. alsace lorraine is for those who like their vocals understated, their instrumentaton apparent but not intrusive, and their melodies familiar and nice. it's perfect for cloudy days, sunny days or just about any day, for that matter.

i really like it.

4 out of 5 stars wistful........2005-04-09

A good band with a lead singer capable of leading you elsewhere. A snatch of new wave and a new feeling of something not yet done make this current. Buy it.
