Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Icky Flix Soundtrack Delivers.......2001-09-14

The Residents have been revolutionizing (or at least lighting the fuse to a revolution) music, video, and visual arts for almost 30 years. This album is the soundtrack to the DVD "Icky Flix", and is composed of mostly remade songs, with the exception of the introduction and exit music.

Some of this music is a great improvement over the original music (Mom's House comes to mind), and some of it does not (Third Reich n Roll) but all of it carries a distinctive orignal flavor to it that bears the trademark of the Resident's sound.

What is most surprising about this CD is the introduction of voices that have not been heard for years (Eloise), and the heavy use of guitars which works well in the entire soundtrack.

While this soundtrack may not bring in any new followers, it is recommended for fans. Or, better yet, get the DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Who needs ...? We have The Residents........2001-09-10

If you've never heard of The Residents, I guess Icky Flix is as good an introduction as any. This is seriously weird music, and it is a revisitation of their music from the past three decades. I really can think of no other music like this. Very few artists out there could emulate these guys, much less want to. Still, there are a few familiar elements. I think I hear a teensy bit of The Art of Noise in "The Third Reich 'n' Roll."

"Just For You (Disfigured Night Part 7)" is a rock anthem the likes of which you've probably never heard before. The chorus has something about doughnuts, and the metre and chords are slightly off-kilter. I believe The Residents work on a scale system the rest of the world is wholly unfamiliar with. In fact, I think The Residents have come up with their own personal music theory.
