Customer Reviews:
Unoriginal And Repetitive.......2001-03-11
I bought 'Some Other Suckers Parade' because I had heard a handful of Del Amitri songs on MTV during the years, which I all found pretty alright.
But the album is boring. It's poppish rock with tiny aspects of folk. The singer is good, the musicians are OK - but the music itself is so uninspired and unoriginal.
Why didn't they just release a single? 'Some Other Suckers Parade' contains 2 or 3 melodies, with 14 different (and banal!) lyrics. Only exception is the closing 'Make It Always Be Too Late' which has something, without being superb.
If you like this style, I will recommend you The Rembrandts instead of Del Amitri. I find it difficult to write that this album is bad, it's just uninspired and boring.
Whoa, what happened?.......2000-07-07
I have been enamored with Del Amitri since their 1990 release "Waking Hours". Justin Currie is a terrific songwriter and lyricist, putting together the type of songs that transport you from your chair/sofa and deposit you in a smokey pub somewhere outside of Glasgow where the rain never stops, the bar never closes, and people wander the streets forever in a haze of broken-hearted pain.
Then this song called "Roll to me" came along. I understand the need for a hit to keep selling records, so I waited while all the other Del fans I know where crying sellout.
Next thing I know I'm hearing "not where it's at" on the radio. The title could not be more appropriate. Currie has been listening to a little too much Oasis, and it shows. The tradional Del Amitri sound is almost gone here, only to be replaced by a kind of electrified-Beatle-fication. There are a couple of bright spots ("What I think She Sees" and "No Family Man"), and this import version is nice to have for the bonus tracks, but really, this is not their best work. The production is not clean, either, unlike Twisted, which has immpecciable sound quality.
I'm anxiously awaiting the return of the brooding scotsman. Hope they leave the nods to the Beatles in Liverpool.
American Version Review!.......2000-02-27
I am a huge Del Amitri fan. So my review is off a big fan who at this point is knit-picking. The album, as are all Del Amitri albums, is great. Again, as before the music and the lyrics are awesome. If you have not heard a Dels song before, not only listen but check out the lyrics and picture a story. My one problem with the album is that many of the songs seem a bit too short. Check out: Medicine, No Family Man, What I Think She Sees, and Some other Suckers Parade.
