f**kin" blow your MIND!.......2000-08-01
In my high school years i used to go through my dads records. obviously one of them was aurthur brown.at the time i was into BLACK SABBATH ,IRON MAIDEN,the DOORS, KING DIAMOND and basically anything that was different and creative. I have to give it to AURTHUR BROWN he was completely original. He openened the door for so many bands after him both musically and expressively.I give credit to MARILYN MANSON for knowing who he is If you've ever listened to ther PORTRAIT OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY you'd know what i,m talkin about.ARTHUR BROWN has to be the ACID ROCK king!
Great rebel-rock from my high school days!.......1999-04-05
I have the original album I bought in the early 70's, it's getting pretty scratchy now. My favorite is still "Child of My Kingdom". Last I heard, Arthur Brown is retired and living in Austin, Texas.
what rock & roll is all about !!!!!.......1999-03-29
only need one word, great!!!!!!!!!
Excellent 60's ORIGINAL ROCK, extremely talented vocalist........1999-02-13
This is an incredibly good CD in terms of Brown's conceptual approach. The whole first side of the original album was really a personal meditation about religion, Heaven, Hell, and sin. I believe Brown has one of the most versatile voices in terms of his singing. His range of expression is truly magnificent. Keep in mind that the production & instrumentation seems a little dated, but given that, using a metaphor from the album, the songs here really "BURN"! Personally, I think FANFARE/FIRE-POEM and TIME are at least as good or better than the big hit FIRE.
By the way, the personnel on the album are Carl Palmer of ELP on drums, and Vincent Crane, who went on to form Atomic Rooster (check out "On Hearing of" by the same) on organ. Production was by the same folks who produced the WHO. In fact, Brown was featured as the priest in TOMMY, and went on to sing on the first Alan Parsons release.
If you like Brown's voice, try checking out his space rock masterpiece JOURNEY. If "Crazy World" sounds dated, "Journey" is a step into the future and still far ahead of it's time (think space rock Pink Floyd).
