1 out of 5 stars Not to be confused with magnetophone,.......2005-11-15

the British electronic duo of Matt Saunder and John Hanson who's debut release I Guess I Need To Be Reminded Of How Much You Love Me fused staccato percussion, fizzy static, heart wrenching melodies and confident beats into one of the most self assured electronic albums in recent years. Their lastest release, The Man Who Ate The Man has just been released in October. Check them out if you're in to IDM.

5 out of 5 stars pre-hollAnd Trevor Kampmann! A MUST HAVE.......2001-03-11

This CD is from Trevor aka hollAnd. It is produced in some fashion by Dave Trumfio of the Pulsars, and Warn Defever, if we are led to believe the linear notes. This is the soundtrack to being stranded alone in your room with your hopelessly 60's stereo equipment, with crappy battery acid getting on your hands, but listening to pop music because you love it so much. The music is far from crappy however.

I originally bought this CD because someone thought I'd like it, since I like the Magnetic Fields. I'm not sure what they were thinking, because it's really nothing like the Magnetic Fields, aside from having some very very catchy songs, a forelorn lyrics (and having "magnetic" mentioned). Instrumentally, it combines treated recordings of traditional instruments, along with layer and layers of grinding keyboards. These are deconstructed keyboard fairytales, low-resolution love. Lots of lyrical references to stereo components, something that all pop music fans probably think about, but rarely hear expressed romantically in songs.

If you are a fan of hollAnd, you should get this CD, he stopped recording as "See Saw" because there were already too many bands trying to use the name "See Saw", then was going to call himself "Magnetephone" but somehow settled on "hollAnd". This is really important if you want to examine his evolution as an artist. You might catch him being slightly more song oriented, and less experimental. Still, it's heartbreakingly good, that feeling you'd get if you dropped your favorite antique transistor radio and saw it smash all over the sidewalk, unable to stop it.
