5 out of 5 stars Well, I might have tried to think of another title for it . . ., .......2006-04-13

Why do they ask us to "suffer"? This is a really good record. MOEV, a Canadian band that cut its first records in San Francisco during the early 80s, has always had the lost in a dream female voice and the Brian Mayish guitar grinding the melodies and other things out with keyboard synthesizers. They cut a wonderful second album back in Canada in the mid-80s ("Dusk & Desire") but that one was marred by one of the guys, thinking he can sing, (and he can, he just sings creepily and unpleasantly) singing on half the album's tracks. They had another album, in the early 90s, with great music but they hired a guy singer for that one- a guy who sounded just like a central casting choice for an FM rock singer. That record would have sounded much better if they'd brought back one of the two earlier girl singers, or hired a new one, a good one.

Now, this record is good. They've got yet another girl singer, with the requisite cold and seductive femme-fatale voice. And this time the guy shuts up and we don't have to put up with his singing. So, without the guy's voice to have to suffer through, there isn't any suffering required here, the record is quite good. The tracks are hot, and provide a refreshing cold burn for one's ears.
If you know and like this group's 80s records, then this one is worth checking into.
