Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Among Wobble's best.......2006-09-18

Yes, very weird, but totally idiosyncratic, overlapping with the droney neo-psych folk revival, hearkening back to Flowers of Romance.

4 out of 5 stars Deffinately a departure. .......2004-07-21

Ok, if you're looking for a straight recent Wobble release this isn't it (if there is such thing anyways). Its a far cry from the exploratory Deep Space discs and even further away from the more catchy "ethno-techno" sorts of stuff. Its really more parallel universe type music - if England was Asia and someone showed up saying, "hey, I like these songs but I think that we should make them more global/palatable". Not that these really are more global or palatable to the general public - but they do infuse an entirely foreign body of sound on "English roots music", much like Wob did on "Molam Dub" to the Molam tradition.
All that being said, it definitely takes some getting used to - at first I was slightly aghast at "Banks of the sweet Primrose," for so long I'd listened to the various Fairport renditions and thought this was terribly bland compared to those. After a couple more listening I've really come to enjoy this version and the album in general. I certainly could envision some different paths these songs could have taken but I am ultimately pleased with the one that was followed.
