Customer Reviews:
Definitely buy this cd if you are low on coasters!!.......2005-11-12
When i bought this cd i had already heard eighteen visions cover of "paradise city", which i really liked so i thought this cd would turn out to be pretty good. Well if good is a compilation of some of the worst cover songs in the world slapped together in a 12 minute time frame by a record label that somehow thought that this would actually be a "tribute" to one of the best bands in the world and not just two hours of inaudible lyrics, and poor talent crammed for your convenience onto one cd then i was right.
If your going to do a cover song you need to pay homage to the original while putting your own spin on it. I think guns n' roses did a great job with "live and let die", "knockin on heavens door", and the whole "spaghetti incident" cd. These bands however took some very good songs, put their spin on it and then added a nice sprinkle of crap for good measure, while completely leaving out any feeling of the original.
The only exception to this rule is eighteen visions cover of "paradise city" which i think they did a very good job of doing.
You dont hand a room full of random people some pots and pans and a trumbone and say "o.k. here you go, cover led zepplins "stairway to heaven" and call it a tribute, cuz in the end its just a bunch of retards banging on stuff just like this cd.
I gave it half a star for eighteen visions, and half a star because it had the words guns n' roses on the cover.
if you don't like hardcore or metal, DON'T REVIEW THIS ALBUM.......2005-01-13
Idiots. If you are purely a Guns n' Roses fan, don't buy or review this album. It's pointless.
If you like hardcore or metal or just extreme music talent... this is a record for you. Bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Zombie Apacolypse, and Unearth put original and incredible spins on tracks that you've already heard scores of times. Why not hear them differently? Why hear the same boring songs from GnR that you've come to use as a sleep aid, when you can hear new and young bands give it their best to show you something new and exciting?
It takes guts to put out a tribute CD like this, and for bands of a completely different genre to take on this kind of music. These bands did an excellent job of giving you something new, something that GnR purists can never tolerate. Cut your hair, take off your tight leather pants, and get into the pit... because GnR is dead, and these bands are the new wave of hard music.
A Disgrace.......2004-11-21
Guns and Roses was an awesome band. With such CDs as Appetite for Destruction, you will have a hospital bill from the neck strain whilst you head bang. In my case, upon listening to Welcome to the Jungle yesterday, I flew down the highway doing 90. Thats not healthy for a 19 year old. (Luckily there were no cops around).
I pretty much grew up with the band, and only now, am I getting back into them. Appetite is now an album constantly in rotation, and I plan to re-buy the Use your Illusion CDs. With such a great band...
...its a shame to see bands crap on them like this.
The title is "Bring you to your Knees"...which must stand for "Bring you to your Knees crying because this is a disgrace to GnR". Hands down, this CD is HORRIBLE. I would give it 0 stars, if not for a few songs (which I will get into shortly).
Hits like Welcome to the Jungle, the intro is sub-par. The rest of the song is sub-hell. They do NOT do the intro better than GnR, and when it get into the song, it sounds like really bad hardcore. The talentless hack just screams the lyrics. He doesn't even do the "sha-na-na-na" thing. Way to crap on the most classic GnR song. Even if this weren't a cover, this song would still suck.
Another favorite GnR song is My Michelle. Crap on this CD. The intro isn't to bad. Then comes the verses. ****. complete ****. The band just jams on the chords required like no tomorrow, and the drummer hits random objects. A 5 year old could put together than this. Another horrible hardcore remix.
Unearth, whom I have a CD from, covered "Its so Easy". The music isn't to bad...but the vocals completely drown out the music. The guy sounds horrible. When he hits the clean vocals (where it goes "Its so easy..." etc), it sounds pretty good. Then more screaming, which was a shame. This entire song was a shame, because it had potential, yet it was completely ruined by horrible vocals.
Sweet Child of Mine? Not too shabby, but definitely not great.
The good?
Anything Goes. Its just decent. The intro is nice.
Nightrain. I'm somewhat of a purist, and this song sounds similar to the original. It breathes new life into the classic. Its not, say, better than the original. It definitely can be a very nice alternative.
November Rain. Its pretty decent. Its not slow like the original; it's heavier (thats the point of this CD I assume). The vocals, are decent. As you'd expect, its screaming, and most of it sounds good.
Paradise City. Its alot heavier than the original. The intro is actually better then GnR's, and the rest of the song is a very nice adaption. The riff right before the verses just outright ROCKS.
Out Ta Get Me. Holy crap. If there were one reason to buy the CD, its for this song. From top to bottom, inside out, its better than the original. By volumes. This is the first song I heard from this, and I was pretty blown away. The screaming fits alot better than Axl's clean vocals. The music is pretty **** faithful, yet upped a notch. Its heavier, better, and more rocking. They do GnR better then GnR can do GnR. Highlight of the album.
Its really a shame. Why do such great covers have to be put on the same CD as this crap. The bad covers bring this CD so low, its not even worth the handful of good songs. The extreme ****tyness quality of the bad songs outweigh the good.
Okay, maybe I'm mad because these bands defiled my most favorite GnR songs (Welcome to the Jungle, My Michelle), yet it goes way beyond that.
There are some who like music like the talentless crapfests above in the "Band Songs" section. So be it, this CD is for you.
Be like me and download the good songs and skip the crap. Crap really is an understatement, ya know...
Sometimes reinventing the wheel isnt all bad..........2004-08-06
Well i just picked up this CD after hearing the most precious blood cover of sweet child o' mine, and for the most part im thoroughly impressed. Many people often compare tribute bands to their orignals, this just doesnt make any sense to me, becuase who the hell cares about how close you can go to being someone else? Most of the songs on this CD are very different from their originals. After listening to my michelle anyone whos into hardcore will realize that dilligner covered it. However some of the songs are pretty crappy, but thats just my taste...
