Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars they try hard enough.......2003-01-17

Listening to this album for the first time i had no idea what to expect. What i found was some really intense stuff!I expected ee to be more of a lyrical band(as most indie bands are) but i was strangely and nicely surprised. Most of these songs are instrumentals and the songs that do have lyrics are really sweet and fun. Oh my god they are fun,i love it in "Drunk in carthage" he says,"maybe a satellite will fall for you tonight", thats great, but the song that tore me the most was the very first one. It's very melodic and soulful and it feels like you're in an alternate dimension somewhere floating in the ether or something.I also think its ravagingly brilliant the way they put 99 tracks on the cd, the most you can fit on a cd.Proving once and for all, for 99 they will not try harder.100 will never happen.

Buy this CD just for "Drunken Carthage."

No, seriously. That song alone is worth the 8 bucks Asian Man will ask you for this compact disc. It's the middle of the album. A centerpiece, if you will. A jammy slowcore song with all sorts of guitar effects, reminiscent of Built To Spill or Seam - go figure, since Soo Young Park from Seam is in this band.

Also in this band are Tobin Mori of Korea Girl, and Peter Nguyen of Total Shutdown. Together, they are Ee [pronounced as the letter "e"], and this album proves that they got this spacey jam rock thing down pat. Like I said, "Drunken Carthage" is the centerpiece of the album, with 4 proper songs surrounding it on each side. The album builds up with wave after wave of semi-instrumental jammy slowcore and reverbed post-rock mixed with pop song structure., peaks at the aforementioned "Drunken Carthage" [if Asian Man only offered this MP3 for download, you'd all know what I'm talking about], and then descends over the next four tracks with the same formula of semi-instrumental jammy slowcore and reverbed post-rock mixed with pop song structure.

This review is pretty short. That's because there really isn't much else to say. If you like Seam, buy this. If you like Built To Spill, buy this. If you like Hum, buy this. If you like CDs that have 60-some hidden tracks, buy this. It's a very solid CD, and it's great for spacing out. I've been doing it all day.
