Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars "Courtney who?" ... Not quite........2004-03-05

While Kat Bjelland, former lead singer of Babes in Toyland has definitely made her mark with this strong debut, its hardly something that will bring her to new audiences."Amusia" is strong both sonically and lyrically, and one can see the growth Kat has undergone as an artist. This however, isn't enough to bring her into the mainstream.Kat will always be an indie superstar, but she just doesn't possess the presence demanded of a rockstar. She will never be Courtney Love. Its time to let it go Kat.With songs like "Git Go" and "Pretty Car", its pretty easy to see who the target is...if not her former partner in crime(CLo), mainstream rockstars in general.I think Kat should be content with the audience she has, one bruised violet is enough.

4 out of 5 stars refined riot grrl at it's best.......2002-01-14

This mature debut full length album from Babes front woman Kat Bjelland proves that riot grrls can become riot women and still do a damn fine job of it. Bjelland's raw 'babesque' sound has matured and melodified into a work of variation, emotion and energy which mixes edgy rock'infused ballads such as 'rosacea' with the good old raging grunge guitars and screaming vocals.
Bjelland has traded in explicit lyrics for baby backing vocals, which,... proves that this is just as much a stepping stone in her life as it is a collaboration of her work to date.
Babes fans don't be alarmed this is still a must have record -grrls never really grow up and there's still a whole lotta riot left in this one.

5 out of 5 stars Better than Babes!.......2001-09-25

This truly is one of the best cd's I've heard this year. Kat has matured as a songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist, and I'm not kidding when I say I like this better than any Babes album. Her new band is technically better, and more interesting than Lori and Maureen. The songs are moving, dark, and hopeful all at once. There is rage. There is exhilaration. There is passion. This is music for people who want to feel something.

If you are a fan or simply like great rock, there's no need to hesitate here. You won't be dissapointed with this record. It'll make you say once again, "Courtney who???"
