Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars One of the better releases of the year. .......2005-05-07

Yet another new more defined approach to post hardcore is what we have here in "The Conversation" by the gang in CRU JONES. As much as it is passionate the album also takes an intriguing approach to musical ideology by blending the fervor of pulsating rock rhythms with a sonic flavor that is distant and intimate at the same time. In essence, it is a duality of varying degrees except they aren't separated or bridged by screaming vocals or obvious guitar structures. Instead, they are intermixed together with blatant intelligence and introspective forethought that only those who have a serious love for music could create. This earnest and heartfelt effort has a depth unlike much of what we have heard over the past year or two. Perhaps a mild comparison to THE SLEEPING is possible here but CRU JONES version is less experimental and slightly easier to follow with the ear. The vocals are naturalistic in tone but express an element of sincerity and candor. Backing up the vocals is a pace that changes from the intricately mellow to the lavishly melodic. Guitar wise, there are pedantic leads that pop up and soar and then disappear back into mid range power thrashings while the drumming sequences put forth an impressive array of point/counter point thumpings. Overall, it does speak of an indy vibe with a "neo" post hardcore outlook that will surely create a buzz for these guys in the future. What else can be said? From top to bottom, this was an astounding piece of work and there is no reason why you shouldn't partake in its musical beauty.

4 out of 5 stars Cru Jones Bring The Artillery With Their Latest Effort.......2005-05-05

Review by Mike Watson:

What happens when you take a band name from the movie RAD and give it to a non-stop touring rock band? They get signed to Undecided and put out the undeniably catchy, driving and well written album The Conversation. Hailing from Florida but then moving up the coast to Syracuse, New York and going through more members then Paris Hilton, Cru-Jones have toured virtually non-stop with as variety of different line ups. With the amount of days on the road they've spent, Cru-Jones seems to be building an army, and oddly enough they are, named `THE ARTILLERY' all with their own case specific name. Unfortunately, that's all that can be spoken about the mysterious gang without threat of life and limb.

On The Conversation, Cru-Jones beautifully blends together Taking Back Sunday style popular indie rock, with full out balls to the wall chunky and smartly written guitar riffs and hooks. Vocalist Terry Bloom and drummer Mike Bloom head the band as the only remaining original members, and consequently brothers. Terry Blooms lyrics and vocals are a bit different to get used to upon first listen, but as the album grows on you, Bloom's vocals grow ten times faster. As far as the lyrics go the subjects and issues written about on this album are refreshingly well thought out and penned.

The Conversation is the feel good rock album of the year, as you will find yourself singing along to the choruses in no time. The cover art, done by Midwestern artist Kyle Numan, is also very impressive, in both concept and actual craft. When you notice Cru-Jones coming through your town you'd be robbing yourself in deciding not to go as their live shows are their pride and joy, the energy of a Cru-Jones performance is alone worth the price to get in. The Conversation is in stores now, so go buy it or they will probably send The Artillery after you.

5 out of 5 stars amazing.......2004-10-09

"The conversation" is a refreshing mix of songs by this up and coming band. I met their singer, Terry, when he was waiting tables at a local resturaunt, so i checked out one of his bands shows. I was blown away, they were easily the best there. They were selling their demo or something only and i heard they were moving so they wouldnt be local anymore, now they got signed to a label which puts their record in stores which is really cool. Buy this cd!
lights out.
