5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Instrumental Fusion.......2006-10-26

I was first introduced to this band at the 1997 ProgDay Progressive Rock Festival. At the time my prog musical horizons were a bit more limited than they are today and I thought their music was way out there experimental stuff. Listening to it today it sounds a lot more accessible than how I originally pegged it back in the day. This all instrumental disc is really outstanding all the way through. The closest comparison would probably be to 70' era fusion outfits such as the Mahavishnu Orchestra, but Boud Deun really does not fit any particular category. All of the musicians are at the top of their game and are all outstanding players. The lineup of guitar, violin, bass and drums makes for a frenetic combination of sound that features both individual excellence and group dynamics. Most of the compositions are in the 2 to 4 minute range, with the exception of "Copper Ink" and "Jupiter" which both clock in at 8 minutes plus and allow the band even more room to stretch out. Unfortunately Boud Deun would be a short lived ensemble as they recorded one additional album and then called it quits. If you are into really strong instrumental fusion / progressive rock this album is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Superb avant-progressive record.......2002-11-06

One of the best american bands of 90's, Boud Deun plays a very fiery and complex, but also amusing, fusion of high-octanage Mahavishnu's improvisations with the jagged rhythms and patterns of R.I.O avant-garde sound. Persinger is an astounding guitar player, Hiser's frantic violin rules and the rhythm section of Eiland and Cancelose simply SMOKES! Highly recommended overall.

5 out of 5 stars Great Progressive-fusion but original and quirky!.......1999-11-20

I was very suprised to find a progressive-fusion CD this good being made by an American group. Intelligent, original and songs that range from the sublime "Sleeping" to the challenging "Jupiter". Highly recommended to fans of King Crimson and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
