Customer Reviews:
No track skipping, 6 stars to be honest..........2006-02-25
Just came across this cd, apparently a bit too late. Pure power pop perfection, jangly edgy guitars, nice melodies with clever lyrics and hooky choruses. Great for listening on the road, psyching up for a surf, driving, chilling out, one of those cds that puts a smile in your face, no matter what. The singer's voice is pretty good, soft yet powerful, no whining, good harmonized backing vocals and all.
A bit like a Gin Blossoms with less twang and more overdrive, better comparisons welcome. Super-catchy rockers and heart-wrenching ballads.
Hard to pick a favourite track but "Disappear", "Peek", "Antenna" and "Hello, Love" are brilliant. Wonder what the hell happened to this band? Definitely should've gone big..
Wonderful.......2001-02-18
This album is wonderful. i saw then live and they rock. i encourage anyone to pick up this cd :-D
Terrific mix of melody and guitar grooviness ! !.......2000-11-15
This is a terrific collection of songs to say the least. The guitar effects and riffs lay down a terrific pop texture for the soaring vocals and "take me away" melodies. Sometimes I look through my CD collection for a disc I can play full length and not think to myself "need to skip this song". If you have ever searched for that complete album and pulled out your favorite U2 disc, then add Miss Fortune to that cherished group. In the first 20 minutes you'll be humming the choruses and enjoying the clever lyrics. There used to be a time when a rock band would write songs about infatuation and longing with genuine feeling and humor, this album returns to that original, and most organic inspiration. This may be overstating the point, but in the era or Rap/Rage-Rock groups this is a refreshing sound. This CD has been living in my car and it becomes more enjoyable with each listening. The tunes vary from bright, pushing rock like "Peek" all the way to the dreamy pop textures of "Antenna". "If You Died" wins you right off the bat with the vocally exposed verses and lyrical twists. In a time when few singers can actually sing, the vocals on this album are finely sung from graceful dovetails to ringing choruses. No cheesy production effects, just plain good singing. The songs cover a broad sonic pallet, but several of the tunes hit right between the eyes with their broad appeal. Who couldn't help but love "Disappear" at first listen ? Get it !
