Product Description
Hailing from the deepest, darkest jungles of the Bible Belt, Hematovore brings a revolutionary breath of fresh air into the realm of classic metal, bridging the gap between Iron Maiden and King Crimson. Leaving no musical stone unturned, their imaginative instru-metal is densely packed with ideas...an encyclopedia of riffs ranging from the intricately complex to the completely anthemic. Startlingly catchy-but never coming off soft, Hematovore turns even the most jaded music fans' heads--whether they're sporting corpse paint, white belts, mohawks, or nerd glasses. Metalheads, hardcore purists, punks, and indie rockers alike--Hematovore invites them all to the table, pats them on the back...and destroys them. Artwork by Aaron Turner (Hydra Head / ISIS / Old Man Gloom) and mastered by John Golden (Neurosis / Craw / Sonic Youth).
Customer Reviews:
the best band you never knew.......2005-11-04
this album will surprise you. if you usually cringe at the sound of the word "metal" then you need to take a closer look. this cd can really only be appreciated if you have some time to listen. if you do [take the time] i really think you're going to love this. and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you've discovered something completely unique.
Yes, the Champs' comparisons are accurate........2005-10-09
The other reviewers here draw parallels between the F*cking Champs and Hematovore, and it's a fair comparison. Both bands have that metallic, mathy sound. Both bands play it instrumental. One difference is that Hematovore does not include those moody synth pieces that cleave Champs albums.
So if you've heard the Champs, you already have a good idea on what you're getting here: crunchy, driving, anthemic riffs. Hematovore executes it with aplomb and style; "Arachnophilia" is an 8-minute masterpiece, a collection of catchy riffs whose cumulate impact exceeds the sum of the parts.
Not everything on this album works, hence the 4 out of 5: a few moments late in the album devolve into over-sludgy down-tempo blocks of sound with little momentum. But there's still plenty here to keep a Champs fan [who has been waiting since 2002 for a new album] satisfied.
