Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars one of the things you should be proud to have.......2006-03-20

lester bangs said that music should be something that showed life. he liked a lot the stooges and the voidoids. this album is a perfect example of both things. you cant ask for more. just listen to the lirycs writen by the guy some people called "the best writer of this decade, only that he writes of rock and roll"

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2004-07-08

There's not too much in the way of instrumental solo's, but the songs are fantastic. Bangs sings decently, plays Harmonica surprisingly well, and the lyrics are out of this world. Guitar, Bass, and Drums back him up, all done well, reminds me a little (not a lot) of the Clash, and the chord progressions are really attention grabbing. This is much more lively than any of Bangs' other musical ventures, and I don't give too many CDs 5 stars. Beautiful Hard Rock.

4 out of 5 stars Well...........2001-02-10

Well...first off let me just say that musically this CD is of course nothing really new. That's fairly obvious from the get-go.

The majority of it is just straight-up rock and roll with Lester bangs having a somewhat average voice blah blah blah, anyway. What may spark some of the iffy reviews concerning this album is that...well, its not quite so demented as one might wish. When I picked this up I have to admit I was quite looking forward to musical nuttiness delivered, but then I got over my preconceptions and found that I really actually enjoyed this CD. I mean, its 70s rock 'n' roll but with something missing from so many rock 'n' roll bands of that era: Intriguing lyrics. Its basically the lyrics and Bangs' never-dull deliver that make this CD worth owning. I wouldn't go as far as to call it essential, but if one were stuck in a decision as to whether to buy MC5's "Back in the USA" and this CD, I'd definitely go with this one.

2 out of 5 stars read the book instead.......1999-12-20

well, he werent much of a singer. or musician. certainly lack of these talents are usually aces in my book, but the music doesnt have much backbone to it and beneath it all, i'm a melody guy. try to get the much superior jook savages on the brazos instead if you must hear lester. its much more demented and unhinged. but mostly reread "of pop pies and fun" or the entire lou reed section from psycotic reactions to totally revel in the masters words.
