Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A NICE 80'S SYNTH POP TREAT.......2004-03-15

Towards the end of 1980, I was in my car and on the radio came one of the most gorgeous songs I have ever heard. The pleasant, charming "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime" with its simple, heartfelt lyrics combined with an orchestra of efficiently programmed synthesisers, a cool, insistent guitar presence and a tear-jerking violin solo moved me to immediately purchase "Dumb Waiters" within an hour. The album contains well crafted, gentle, sometimes quirky, synth based pop tunes. Other than the classic "Everybody's.....", other standout favorites include another ballad, the beautiful, romantic "If It's Alright With You Baby", the smooth "It's No Good Unless You Love Me" and cleverly arranged "Drawn & Quartered".

The album really never hit it commerically especially here in the U.S. as the band probably suffered from not marketing its image effectively in comparison to the vast number of other rivaling pop contemporaries at the time. None the less, it is never too late to discover and appreciate a fine treat like this album, nicely remastered on CD.

(The one ? that I have yet to find the answer to, is why the CD version of "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime" has an alternate verse compared to the original album version? Still sounds great though!)
