We Can't Go For That.......2004-10-17

It always amazes me upon how Greatest Hits records are portraited for so many artists. Nevertheless, there is always one that really doesn't seem to hit the nail upon the head. For the BMG imports collection, Artist Collection, they really have made some of the least interested and complete reflections upon most of their artists overseas. That has happened with so many greats including Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, and even Hall & Oates. For a group that really had defined the combination of Rock & Soul, they simply aren't displayed very well. Since the 70's they showcased a bravado of elegance and definite feel for soul. Although they became the best at what they performed, it is simply not here.

The Artist Collection of Hall & Oates, contains 14 recordings Hall & Oates performed throughout their RCA era. The songs here really range very mixed, compared to their successful collections in the U.S. The collection includes songs from feel good hits like Rich Girl, the soulful Maneater, Private Eyes, and some of their lesser known tracks including Family Man, Open All Night, and Room To Breathe.

The unfortunate problem with this collection is that too many of Hall & Oates great songs aren't featured here, including Sara Smile, One On One, Method Of Modern Love, You Make My Dreams from the groundbreaking Voices, Out Of Touch, Possession Obsession, and Do It For Love.

All in all, The Artist Collection: Hall & Oates edition, really doesn't seem like a good fit for any Hall & Oates fan. Instead, I really suggest you get the Ultimate Hall & Oates collection released earlier in 2004. It is a better collection, for only a few bucks more.

Well.... you could do better.......2004-10-13

From looking at the track listing, I would recommend the "Ultimate Hall & Oates" album instead if I were in the market for a compilation disc. Otherwise, I would suggest you get all their albums to complete your collection. Daryl & John have made loads of great songs that were never released as singles. FPS, their demos are better than what's on the air now.
