3 out of 5 stars More "NWOBHM" Than "Stoner".......2003-12-21

First...if you do not know what NWOBHM stands for, then you shouldn't even be reading this review; go do some heavy metal homework or at least a "google" search first. Having said that, even though you might have seen this album for sale on several "stoner rock" websites, Sir Hedgehog's music owes as much to NWOBHM bands like Iron Maiden, Angel Witch & Savage as it does bands like Pentagram, Trouble & St. Vitus. While listening to this disc, all the above bands came to mind. No one style can really classify this band. The lyrics & album artwork definitley carry occult & magick overtones; but nothing really sinister. The musicianship is very sound with some killer guitar work and excellent "Bill Ward influenced" drumming. If the singer never opened his mouth I would rate this at 4 stars. However, the singer decided to sing...hence the lowering to 3 stars. The vocalist sounds like a cross between Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden & David Byron of Uriah Heep after gargling with broken glass for his larygitis. Well maybe not that bad, but the singing definitely brings the overall enjoyability (if that is even a word) down a few pegs. To bring up the guitar again, it's classic Marshalls on 10 "tube" tone which at times even brings to mind Glen Buxton's playing with Alice Cooper. The guitar solos are the redeeming quality of this album; and it is for that reason I might listen to this album more than a few times.
Anyway....there are a whole lot of influences here that make this album a worthy purchase if you dig any of the bands I made reference to. I would search the zShop here on Amazon or your local used cd bin first rather than paying full sticker price.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome classic metal!.......2003-03-06

Fully captures the heaviness of 70's stoner style but brings something new to the table at the same time.
Good to know this music still exists
