Album Description

'The Unfound Sound' is Skating Club's third full-length and their first release on the Kimchee label. While 'Unfound' retains the engaging experimental sonic elements and down-tempo indie pop charm of the previous critically acclaimed Skating Club records, the sound on this record pushes farther into the pop realm. It is bedtime music that will stay in your head the next day, claiming a stylistic place in the still somewhat-unheralded canon of music flowing from Nick Drake to Red House Painters. <P>Skating Club has always been part extended family and part pick-up soccer game. Members often come and go with different sessions and tours, depending on everyone's schedule and needs. The essential player, however, has always been songwriter Aubrey Anderson. Anderson's approach to 'The Unfound Sound' was considerably different than on the last two records: this time, he played almost every instrument himself and worked in relative isolation rather than collaborating with others. The result is a more focused musical narrative that's as personal as a memoir. And for the listener, it's a musical experience as invigorating and comforting as your morning cup of coffee.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful, haunting cd, full of precious unfound sounds..........2005-05-25

Every song is different on this album, yet yields the same effect...release.

I found this cd in Washington DC, by accident. I just wanted to hear some good alternative/softrock music. I saw the cover of this album, and saw something appealing; something similar to coldplay, but not quite; similar to John Mayer, but yet, not really. The cover shows rain clouds approaching hovering over open land with a single musician sitting and thinking - it's kind of like the artist (Aubrey Anderson) is facing his inner fears and exposing them to the wind, regardless of the consequences. Hard to comprehend, yet full of meaning, I thought.

I bought the CD, and my perceptions were close. It's not quite Coldplay, and not quite John Mayer, but it's just as good, and often better, than both. Some critics have already called this album one of 2004's best. But they all have their own unique reasons. I just wanted to hear some relaxing, soul searching, music with a slight edge. And the critics were not in sight or mind the day I discovered the Unfound Sound.

The Unfound Sound is all at once familiar, yet completely unique. From the first track 'The Long Hot July', you pretty much know from that point whether or not you like the entire album.

I loved it from the get go. My favorite tracks are San Francisco, Summer Time, and the light-hearted Pretty Soon. All the other tracks tie for second place (but slightly ahead are the Long Hot July, Hope, and Headphones & Distance).
