Customer Reviews:
This album is first rate!.......2006-07-19
An album that was screaming for DVD-A treatment. This; the second solo album from TOTO guitarist Steve Lukather sees him move away from his Pop-Rock superstar debut and veer off into more mature terrritiory. Known for his virtuosity, this can accurately be described as a Scorching Mixture of Jazz and Progressive Fusion Rock. TOTO have always set standards in terms of Musical Synergy and this album is no exception as Lukather brings his years of Platinum Studio Polish into the mix. And talking of mixes, Elliot Scheiner does a remarkable job on the disc's DTS Sound Production. Most of the Album is front stage, but it is remarkable to compare this to the CD. Each of the 5 Channels is incredibly clear and crisp, doing justice to the talents of the, ( 'Los Lobotomy's' ) band member player contributions. This is, 'Candyman' as it was meant to be heard. Top playing and top musicianship deserve this kind of platform. A Triptych of highlights are the, Santana-esque, 'Hero with a Thousand Eyes'. The rip-roaring Hendrix cover of, 'Freedom' and the J.Beck inspired, 'Song For Jeff', ( a soaring tribute to the world's greatest session drummer, Jeff Porcaro who also happened to be a TOTO member ). A few Rom features would not have gone amiss, but this is an Album and not a film. Any extra details for the inquisitive are in the Booklet. All in all it's a full 5 for the sonic wizardry on offer. Be sure you make this the first DVD-Audio Title you buy.
To avoid confusion.......2005-03-16
I bought this for my boyfriend thinking it was a DVD but when he received it he told me it was a special surround sound disc. It might just be that I'm even more gormless than I first thought, but since this is listed as a DVD, I assumed that's what it was.
Don't make the same mistake as me unless you have a whizzy surround sound system to appreciate this CD for what it is.
