4 out of 5 stars a wise woman.......2003-04-30

This one really is good. She has a sexy voice, but doesn't use it just to come on to men and alienate women. She speaks from the point of view of a woman who has learned a lot in life and takes responsibility for her own pleasure, which she has in abundance.

Not content to wither and sing the blues when her man does her wrong, she instead vows to "make love to the next man that I see." In "I love you. I am no more" she is a housewife who is so caught up in lovemaking that she "doesn't know if the kids have eaten," an amusing and liberating line for us working mommies who run around feeling like we have to be everything to our kids, jobs and men.

Another beautiful line from "I Love you.I am no more": "I think there was some kind of sunset." That's just one of the many poetic verses in this album.

4 out of 5 stars Great, although it takes a few listenings to really love........2001-12-07

I bought this cd after hearing one of the tracks in a store. BELLA CAIO was so haunting to me that it was the impetus to buy the cd(I'm usually not an impulse music buyer). The store that I originally heard the song in was a trendy vintage clothing store run by a drag queen. Although I think drag queens are usually excellent auteurs of music, I think there is a definite style. This should have clued me in on the album. It reminded me alot of the soundtrack for HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (which I really loved and appreciated, but did not buy the cd of). SEX O'CLOCK is really great music, but I don't know if it's something I'll be playing alot in the future (and it was fairly expensive). It reminded me alot of a cross between ABBA and MARIANNE FAITHFUL (without her depth).

4 out of 5 stars intoxicating...addictive.......2001-11-01

This release is an intoxicating and addictive treat by the unique Anita Lane. Singing/speaking in equal parts Claudine Longet, Jane Birkin and Nick Cave, she inhabits these songs with melancholy resignation. From the menacing opening cover of Gil Scott-Heron's "Home Is Where The Hatred Is" thru to the deceptively soothing "Bella Ciao"(which I found out is a popular Italian song, celebrating anti-fascist resistance in the Second World War), Mick
