Musical Genius.......2005-06-20
Although Denis's lyrics are totally self-absorbed and more than a little disturbing, the man has genuine musical talent.
Denis Rules the World!.......2004-02-10
Betrayed is one of those albums that comes along once in a lifetime. When I first heard Princess, it was all down hill from there. This may be the worst album of all time, quite a feat considering all the trash out there. It is in this regard that I anoint Sir Denis, "King of all that is unholy". If I could have one wish in my life, it would be to meet Denis Marshal and tell him these words, "Your album sucks, I listen to it all the time" After listening to how he got betrayed, I never want to catch an STD, that's for sure. Rock on Denis, keep making your trash, I'll be here to listen and laugh as long as you got the balls to keep cranking out the "hits".
KARMA.......2002-07-01
Most people have gone through bad relationships and been hurt. These lyrics certainly capture those feelings. Usually, such a cathartic process of writing about a bad time will bring a mature person to understand themself more and their own shortcomings, but these lyrics do not demonstrate any of that part of the process, if it existed at all for this artist. So, when you fail to learn from mistakes, you repeat them, or have them repeated on you. What comes around, goes around or so the saying goes - sorry you were so hurt, but then again, were you sorry you hurt me? I doubt you even noticed you are so wrapped up in yourself. Nice guitar playing - for the next CD, just keep that and throw out the words and the quasi-personality.
You sow what you reap.
My Thoughts on Betrayed.......2001-06-03
OK folks, the story of this seemingly autobiographical CD goes something like this- Boy meets girl, Girl passes on an infectious disease to boy, boy records CD to seek revenge. All the songs on this CD have to do with their relationship (or lack of one) with the exception of one, and the results are a mixed bag. The opening song on the CD, "Do You Tell Him You Love Him Too", is one of the highlights. Marshall tells his tale of woe between classical guitar interludes played on a steel string. The last line of the first verse is a classic. The two other songs that are the most effective are "Thunderweasel" and "Lullaby (For the Child I'll Never Have)" with the former being the highlight of the CD. On this instrumental Marshall blazes through lightning fast classical riffs ala Van Halen's "Spanish Fly". It's obvious that his influences are in the Van Halen, Satrinani, and Vai vein. "My Life Story In Under Three Minutes" is an interesting concept, but it just doesn't have enough to make it work. The instrumentation seems to fall in and out of beat and it makes for labored listening (although Marshall may have intended this to act as a metaphor for his life). Anyway, I must confess that I am no rock music journalist but I felt compelled to write this review. If Marshall can come up with more material in the Do You Tell Him/ Thunderweasel/ Lullaby vein, his next effort should be worth checking out.
