5 out of 5 stars Buy this!.......2005-01-06

I discovered Alex Woodard's music after wandering into one of his inspired live performances...if you have a chance to see him live, you must!! I love this album because of the broad emotional range and heartfelt songwriting. It's my favorite road trip CD. Girls, there are more pictures of Alex on his website www.AlexWoodard.com you need to check it out.

5 out of 5 stars THE MORE I LISTEN, THE HIGHER I FLY.......2005-01-05

I've listened to Mile High for a couple weeks now and it just gets better and better. I go through a lot of music everyday and am always on the lookout for new or underrated bands. Alex Woodard isn't new, but he just might be underrated.

I heard Alex for the first time on Pete Droge's website. Mile High is the result of their collaborative sweat and tears. Pete is one of my absolute favorite artists - I have his music on my pc, in my stereo and in my car so that he is never far from my reach. I figured that if Pete was working with Alex, it had to be worth a listen. Faithful to the quality of work that Pete Droge produces, Mile High delivered everything I've come to expect and more.

I've read reviews that compare Alex to other artists - and although well intended - Alex stands entirely on his own. Mile High showcases his extraordinary talent as a singer, poet and musician. He tells his own stories through his own words with a strong, rugged voice and delivers every note with the passion of an artist devoted to his craft. In the spirit of a true songwriter, Alex puts the stories of his life and his loves to music. The result is a balance of passionate rock ballads and outstanding musicianship.

The album opens with Mile High. Alex sings 'I've never felt nothin' quite like this' and I'm thinking, I've never heard nothin' quite like this. I was hooked less than a minute in.

If you appreciate albums that you can listen to without skipping a song, Mile High will not disappoint. It delivers ten gems, one after another. There isn't a bad song on this album - one flows into the next and each is part of an impressive whole. If you'd liked to be eased in, I'd start with

Mile High, Wonderful, Blood Salt & Silver, Breathing and Beautiful

These are just highlights and not meant to take anything away from the other songs. They are all outstanding. When Mile High takes root, I believe that in time it will be acknowledged as a notable piece of classic rock taking its rightful place next to the likes of Tom Petty.

If you didn't catch my gushing admiration for Pete Droge, I propose you check him out as well as Shawn Mullins, Matthew Sweet as individual artists and their band The Thorns.

"Now I hang on to every word that you say, scared you're going to fade away"

Don't fade away now, Alex. You're just taking off.
