Album Description

1996 compilation on Repertoire. Featuring 18 of the very best solo recordings by The Who's bassist, 1971-1981. Housed in a digipak with an 18 page booklet featuring track-by-track annotations by Entwhistle himself, it includes 'My Size', 'Ten Little Friends', a radically different version of 'My Wife' from 'Who's Next' & more!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Worth getting even if you own the material..........2001-07-12

Lemme justify my rating. Y'see, firstly, this CD covers John's solo output pretty damn well, if I do say so myself, featuring (IMO) a better track selection than Rhino's comp. The addition of the slight, but unreleased, "Red Red Robin" is also kinda nice.

But that isn't all! Unlike Rhino's comp, all of the songs here are, to some degree, remixed, and while I can't tell whether some of the changes are due to extreme mix differences or (the horror) revisionism, they do provide interesting listening, thus making this Best Of even more appealing; even if you own most of the songs, you don't have *these* versions. Consider this both a bonus and a "buyer beware;" "Antholoy" is excellent, but it isn't, to an extent, representitive of John's actual solo albums. Which are excellent.
