Hauntingly Beautiful Music (You really need this album!).......2002-06-26

What can I say? This album owns me. There are very few albums in my vast collection that I could listen to over and over at any time -- and Play of Light is one of them.

Yes, Judith are considered to be a "goth" band -- but with the line between hard/heavy rock and goth starting to blur; I know this wonderful album will appeal to fans who can appreciate the talent and passion that goes into making a stand-out album.

Christopher David has one of the most haunting and yes, beautiful voices -- that deep gothy kind of male voice that makes all the chicks in black swoon. Plus he writes lyrics like he was writing poetry. If you don't believe me, then took a look at La Bella or Without Her. You can almost feel the emotion that David puts into his vocals and lyrics as they glide over you. **SWOON**

The rest of the band can hold their own too -- so don't worry, it's not just the Christopher David Show (although he does manage to steal the spotlight!). The guitar work, at times, has that kind of swirly, Cure-inspired thing going on -- not a bad thing at all (Robert Smith being way too under-rated as a guitar player in my book; but that's another rant -- oh, I mean review!). The song arrangements are lush with subtle keyboard additons that are a perfect fit.

Although I love this whole album, I do have some personal favorties: Switchblade (a haunting beautiful song about a sea-lost love); La Bella; Without Her (pure lyrical poetry -- guys, quote some of this to your girl and you'll be in like flint!); and Air of Lovers (the ultimate romantic song.)

I can't recommend this album enough -- I've turned several people onto this band with just the first few songs. So don't get left behind people -- do yourself a favor and pick up Play of Light. You won't be disappointed.

A new masterpiece from Judith!!.......2002-03-16

I have enjoyed this band for quite some time and can tell that they have grown so much with the release of "Play of Light". The production quality is wonderful, the music is enthralling, and even the cover art is beautiful as well. I want two of this CD so I can frame one and listen to the other ~ it is so gorgeous!! The music is very well orchestrated and lovely to experience. This CD shows the many facets of Judith through all the different types of songs, which they prove to excel in. From pop to ballads to straight forward rock, this band can handle every angle of music with grace. The vocals will inspire many girls to swoon with their romanticism and the lyrics read like poetry. I was lucky to catch these guys playing in my area and hope to see them again soon. While you should go see them when they come to a city near you, in the meantime, buy this CD! You won't regret it!
